any one know why this configuration is not possible, and if it will ever be offered?

it doesnt make sense to me- the heaviest 1500 with the highest cargo volume is denied the most powerful engine.

probably not gonna happen.. way to small of a market for that. and i personally think ECLB's look kind of weird

market may be small, but when the truck in front and behind on the assembly line can get it, why cant the one in the middle? even still, i think an argument can be made that an 8 foot bed is the ideal work truck as it can swallow almost anything while being able to put the tailgate up...and the convenience of a backseat cant be denied. and why would you want to deny your workers the option of the most powerful engine? (not saying you personally, in general). i just dont see how the B/C is not in gm's favor.

and yeah, its personal taste, but i disagree...i think the long bed has better proportions, especially when lifted. my brother had an extended cab standard bed and i felt it just looked like they chopped the end off of it.

it just doesnt make sense to me.

You won't see it. This generation of truck is about finished and it sounds like the 6.2 won't be in the new 1500s. But with direct injection their "big" V8 will likely have more power than the current 6.2.

If that "big" v8 is still going to be the 5.3 then there gonna have to do more than just DI to surpass the 6.2's power and torque numbers.

yeah, so ive heard. i was hoping gm would do one of there "last hurrahs" that they tend to do with the last years of an outgoing model.

try buying a crew with the 6.5 bed, really a 5.8 with a bed extender makes it right!

40k 50k and can't offer that option

How about a W/T with a 6.2, not to thread jack, but wouldn't a "work truck" model be doing more "work" so why not offer it the biggest engine to help it do its job. Thats a new one for me never knew that the ECLB's couldn't get a 6.2. that'd be nice combo.

Cost. A WT truck is a fleet vehicle and fleet managers care about cost, not power.

If the 6.2 goes away I will be the first in line for a new Ford 6.2 in 2014, and I've had 10 GM's in a row.

Go ahead. With direct injection HP/Tq numbers are deceptive because responsiveness is soooooooo much better. I have no immediate plans to replace my 2011 but GM moving to GDI on the V8s will be a tremendous advantage. Ford's 6.2 is limited to top trim trucks and those need 400 HP cause they're heavy pigs. It is also a horribly outdated SOHC design that probably has the same cyl head troubles all the mod motors have had. Good luck if you do so, but leaving GM because you can't get a "big" engine is stupid.

i agree, the 8ft bed is better then the 6ft bed for almost everything. i went from a long bed to a short bed and regretted it. i do think the ECLB 1500's look way better lifted, they just look weird most when they are really low like the 2wd ones.

as for the bigger engine, if you were buying a couple trucks that were gonna get beat up by your workers, i dont think you would want to buy the most expensive/fastest engine. thats just me

I 1000% agree that the 6.2 should be available in any cab or box length but it has been explained to me on gmtrucks.com that CAFE wont allow it ! Yes i would of loved to bought my sierra WT plus reg cab 8ft bed with the 6.2but no dice ! Just seems stupid and odd, who cares if its not a strong seller thats what custom

orders are for !

Yea CAFE is going to ruin the pickup truck as a whole along with the V8, but thats a different story. I would think a 6.2 in the long bed would be an awesome truck for any task. It's a shame they don't offer it.

why does CAFE say you can put the 6.2 40k-50k trucks and not the lower end models ?
