Idk Morgan, a lot of trucks I've seen go into 4Lo that aren't manual seem to clunk when shifting. My stepdad's 02 tahoe sounds like the whole transfer case blew off the car... Not saying thats normal but mine also clunks and it's an 07...

I never use 4lo in the dunes but everyone recommends it so I wanted to make sure it worked I don't like it

I used 4 low on the dunes last year. Definitely helps keep the revs up and it also disables all the annoying nannies with stabilitrac too. Plus it gives you a monster launch when you race someone on the sand.

Really I use 4hi because I can go faster with it

dads 91 ford f250 smooth, 2000 or 1999 dont know is smooth f350, the dodge 2010 sounds smooth, and his 012 silverado sounds smooth.

To me a clunk is a bad thing. It means metal against metal even my 500 suzuki does not make a sound chaning it into low 4x4. I drove my moms brother toytota and put it into 4low and did not make a sound .

I will try to pay more attention to my dads 2012 silverado next time when i use 4low and see if i hear anything . Most of the vehicals i mention are manual but the dodge and silverado .

I can go fast in 4 low too- it just happens at 5000 rpm.

Someone who is better at math will have to deal with the calculations but I'm pretty sure I was up around 50 with more left. That's fairly quick for something with stock suspension on the dunes.

Edit- found a site that a smart person made that does the math for me.

I have a potential top speed of about 88 MPH in 4 low (using 5,750 RPM as the max).

I can go back in time using 4 low! :D

gotta get manual transfer case.. my 2003 has the manual tranfer case and i prefer it to the auto 4wd in my 2001. much smoother and it goes in almost instantly. my 2001 with auto goes into 4lo relatively smoothly at a dead stop.

i hate not having a center console though

Wow! 88mph in 4lo? Sounds like trouble. Careful Mike, that may blow up your flux capacitor.

That's just theoretical. Not sure I have the stones to do 90 in the sand. I raced a few friends on flat/smooth sections of the dunes and like I said, I probably got to 50 or 60 before I quit (one of the guys has a ZR2 with nitrous, so the race was kinda hopeless).

As for t-case types, my 2003 had a manual t-case and I hated it. So troublesome to engage, especially 4 low. I drove a few others like mine and they were all like that. Thankfully the electric system in the 900s seems to be more reliable than that in the 800s, I have no issues with it and shifting is always fast.

Ah the good ol' days. Cranking up on the shifter trying to get that last clunk, getting out in the blizzard trying to twist the lockouts that hadn't moved in a year...stupid button. Where's the fun in that? :)
