I'd have driven the SOB with a flat to the next exit. No way in hell would I change a tire on ANY highway, never mind in that part of the state!

I'm glad nothing happened to you! You're lucky. I'd rather replace a rim, than lose my life to the aforementioned morons.

Does sound like a manufacturer defect there. Wouldn't surprise me the actual statistics are fairly high. Everyone is cheaping out on everything. I'd love to see the actual statistics for new car failures - I bet the truth would shock us all! I see more new cars on the side of the road these days with their hazards on, on the back of a flatbed or tow truck, or completely engulfed in flames. I remember as a kid seeing the occasional radiator boiling over, and flat tires, but it seems worse today. Alot more cars on the road now, though. Never saw a car fire until the late 90's - then I seemed to see them constantly!

I've been lucky over the years. Never had a total tire failure, except last year picking up a nail on my motorcycle on 495 in Chelmsford, in the same traffic, same morons - it's a wonder I made it across all 3 lanes at 65, squirming on my rim. People won't give you an inch whether you're in trouble or not! Nobody GAF about anyone but themselves up here. SO tired of it.

Like that one thread that came up recently, gotta take care of you dude. Get out while you can, if you can.

New job? Not sure what to recommend. What did you have in mind?

Ugh, it's just the pay is good now, but it has to be or no one would do it. I haven't decided for sure yet, can't really match my current pay without going and getting a degree. Looking at starting my own little out of home business or doing several "freelance" type of jobs together. If I get good at them I can get close to this pay.

Just curious, what do you do now if you don't mind me asking?

I run my Raptor at WOT all the time also. Did it with my 08 and my 14. Both are tuned with pipes, and I've never had an issue.

Yes, you are right.

It wasn't quite as fool hardy as it sounded. I was south of Boston in the country just north of exit 12 in Pembroke, I never would have done that near the city. Still not the best idea, but I had about four feet on the left side of my truck and the road is straight and flat right there. I was surprised that a trooper didn't come by since there is a barracks at the next exit, but I was out of there fairly quickly, But you're absolutely right, next time, to hell with the rim, roll on the flat to the next exit..

Well.....

I really don't have anything good to say. You can get in trouble for making negative remarks about it, and I have made plenty so.....

If I ever am completely separated, I'd want to write a book. The mind numbing stupidity is what causes all the stress.

I think he, we, like to know what you do for a living, maybe people will stay clear chose something else. I spent most of my life clearing pipelines utility lines on ruber tired, track clearing machines. Pretty brutal, stressful. Then did training. Loved evey minute, hard on the body, but not debilitating.

If I ever see anyone saying they are going into the work, I will warn them. I have warned many people. We had a guy who soon after making it to permanent status quit to start trucking. I told him he was the smartest guy in the office, leaving before he got in too deep.

Plus, it blindsides you. It isn't hard, just physical and constantly aggravating you with dumb little polices that so nothing but hinder you and help no one. "spend a dollar to save a dime", literally. The other day they used about $5 worth of my day to do something that saved the company less than a dollar.

I understand, my brother tells me they now have to have training to ( operate) a weed eater to clean road crossings on pipelines. Really intense trading to operate the tree mulching machines on pipelines. We all have to have license to work on them at all now. They will put pads on pipeline crossings now even if they're 5ft deep, even if your crossing with a rubber tired machine. Glad I'm retired.

That sucks dude, college would take a buttload of time, and is a huge financial liability.

Hopefully you find something you like more than the current job. That would be a good start, anyway.

Idiot supervisor broke his leg at work last night. I know I'm supposed to feel sorry but I don't. In fact I laughed multiple times seeing as how many of us have complained that he was unsafe and was going to hurt someone. Might have taken 2 or 3 years for it to happen, but happen it did. Laughed even more when I found out he was yet again screwing around. I know I'm heartless, going to hell, and an a-hole, but I'm fine with that. 1 down 2 more to go. The down side is we're going to lose the use of that piece of equipment until OSHA completes their investigation, we're already short on those things. Earlier in the week 3 broke in 20 minutes, 2 of which I was driving so losing one b/c of an idiot is just frustrating. They'll probably try to blame/punish hourlies like the last injury a supervisor caused on that piece of equipment. Not to say that I haven't had fun on those things from time to time, they are basically all metal golf carts geared for torque so we can pull a few thousand pounds of packages and tubs.

OSHA investigation? Atleast they show up there. Where I was working we never saw them. The almost 10 years I was there I never saw them once.

I don't know if they'll actually show up. That's just what I was told is supposed to happen. I've never seen them in 11 years. I've heard stories of them being held outside for 2 hours while the building was cleaned up, I don't know if I was there for that though. I rarely see the company that we hire to do our internal safety audits. I've only talked to them once in 11 years and they're supposed to come at least once a year. Failed my audit on purpose b/c they pissed me off and were in my way while I was trying to work.

I worked at an old office that looked like it was ripe to be kindling. They used up the fire extinguishers(like 6 of them), to recharge them, but didn't. Me and another guy complained constantly, and after a year a corporate safety guy is doing a random inspection. And suddenly, the safety check form is filled out, 9 entries in a row in the same ink on every extinguisher. Except they were still empty. Oh, how me and that guy had fun talking to the safety guy. Our boss came up and basically said we were extremely exaggerating, they had just emptied them. We pointed out how the ink was aged on the form and how the last 9 entries looked identical. Same inspector Sig, which didn't match the rest of the form (for all 6.) They had those things filled a week or two later.

    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled. Long after. 😬   https://www.enginelabs.com/news/tech-tips-replacing-ls-active-fuel-management-lifters-with-melling/   The Gen5 lifters operate the same as the LS versions. In fact they are the same lifter.    https://www.enginelabs.com/tech-stories/sorting-out-gen-v-lt-lifter-failure-with-a-simple-valvetrain-fix/
    • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
    • I am curious as to how much fluid you put back in the transmission ( assuming you had replaced the filter to compare to my findings ) and then went through the process of warming up the trans before pulling the check plug to drain out the excess and if you measured how much came back out.    I just found it surprising that some claimed a certain amount less fluid being put in and then draining some back out. The attitude of the truck as per if the surface is level and how the trucks stance is would make quite a difference since the check plug is right at the front of the transmission.
