It increases the spring rate of the leaf pack, making it stiffer and harsher. It will ride ok if you are loaded down with 500lbs in the bed all the time, but unloaded it will feel like your riding on bricks. Bed bounce will be horrible.

How is it a negative comment? He asked for help, and I gave him a fact. AALs make the leafs stiffer, adding 2 will make it ride like $hit. If you are that upset, please leave.

I am not upset, I was just responding to your negitive sounding comment. It did not sound like a fact to me. Now your above response sounds more like a fact and I would have gone about my day......Darn, just wasted 5 minutes of my day.....back to moonshiners....

i wouldn't hesitate to add one leaf to my truck.. i have a leaf waiting to be installed. and yeah it makes the ride a little bit stiffer but its nothing crazy. my truck has a cali lean x10 when i have my bed and trailer loaded with wood

Just make sure you arent loading it to the point of bending your axel.

Just curious though, why not just get a good heavy trailer?

I have a decent trailer, Its just when i do load the bed i want it to hold without stress,

Also adding a cple leafs plus the add a leaf i may be able to eliminate the blocks.

So you want to eliminate the block while worsening the ride?

Why not just get airbags?

I,ll look into them, I didnt think the ride would be that much worse with an extra leaf or two..

Cant feel much stiffer to tougher then it is now.

Ide stick to the aftermarket overload springs, that way your unloaded ride isnt affected. I just installed some coilovers on the rear of my half ton and it looks like it added some height to the rear (which I didnt really want) and it definately added some anti-sag affect to it. it barely moved when my big butt sat on the tailgate this afternoon. You might try a set of those.

Coilovers? Do they replace the leafs? I would like to change my rear suspension since I don't tow as often now

Coil over in the rear? Dodge does that nowadays I would think leaf is way tougher, Ford's back in day with front and rear leaf that's a truck. Curious to see what you actually did.

Coil over use the staock shock mount, not strong and can break or bend the mount. Add-a-leaf will help, but will stiffen the ride. Not sure on adding 2 on each side. Air bags are great, but you have to check and add air to them when loading. You can get an on board compressor system to change the pressure. Also when you lift the truck by the frame you can over strech them. Timbrens are a great setup. Put them in and forget them. No air lines to leak, no air to add. Lifetime warrenty. There is a new product called aircells, made by air lift. They are the same deal as timbrens.

I thought about doing this to my truck, but all the old school mechies I know told me I'd be better off getting a set of original leafes instead. It's a short bed and has only three leafs. The regular full-size has five. It doesn't take much to make my truck sag and when I hit a dip you could hear the drive line hit the muffler.
