Just got one last week. Works great still closes easy and don't have to worry about the kids dropping the gate down on each other.

I've had mine for a year now, and I love it. Only thing is when I open my work truck tailgate and BAM it goes down, I sometimes forget that all trucks do not have them. Only bad thing is when the wife opens it and she does not understand that it will not fall and she pushes it down because it is not going down fast enough for her.

Oh yea I got one of these "man steps" too to help me climb into the bed of the truck. I am only 33 but I had knee surgery for a torn acl last summer and this has help immensely. Say what you will I am secure in my MANHOOD

One other thing: if you're getting a strut, make sure that it has a "fat" cylinder and the stirrup end as shown in the video. There are some in the supply channel that have a slender cylinder and snap onto the mounting hardware and these still let the tailgate drop too fast. The company is aware of this, but chose to let the inferior ones remain out on the dealer shelves.

I like the idea of a step. Like I said I'd like gm to put a retractable step and a folding handrail like the Ford's

I went and just purchased on from a local O'Reilly store. Will pickup tomorrow.

 

I don't care what tool bag says above, this is an awesome/functional/cheap mod. There are times when I have had to let the tailgate slam down which really irritates me, now, I won't have to do that.

Oh, yeah, I got one. Not for me, 'cause I know how to handle my tailgate, but for the wife and kids who don't know how to handle a tailgate, and couldn't care less about it or the possible ensuing damage, either.

Ordered mine from Amazon today. $30 delivered. I agree with the rest, an 8 year old doesn't know or care about how to properly open a tailgate.

I have put one on my truck last year.

These are worth the time and money.

I would recommend buying one, can make for a great practical joke if you set it up correctly.

Bought one last night @ Oreilly, only to find my 10mm combination wrench has walked away from my toolbox. When I get another wrench I'll do the mod.

 

UPDATE.....now installed and doing exactly what it was designed to do.

I've had one for a year or so and I love it. It's great if your carrying something. You don't have to set it down to open the tailgate, just flip the tailgate latch and the tailgate lowers.

I have the same one from my 2007 avalanche on my Silverado, keeps my son from dropping the gate when loading/unloading sports equipment. Worth every penny! Just remember when you're opening the tailgate on your father-in-laws new Silverado he doesn't have one!5303925377

Anybody have a clearance issue between the gas cylinder and the top of the tailgate cable? Mine is tight. I tried switching the cable and cylinder position and it made no difference.
