When I traded BigBlue in Saturday, I made sure to remove the EZ-Down, knowing how hard they have become to find (the "good"ones), and installed it on the 2013 yesterday.

He who hesitates is least.

Manstep goes on tomorrow.

Just wondering, how did you removed the anchor in the tailgate? Not that I want to take mine out, but I'm just curious how it came out.

BTW congrats on the new truck!

Confession is good for the soul.

I was one of the original fools who purchased the DeeZee #DZ43101 tail gate assist (from Amazon for $38) and discovered that it did not perform as it should. Dropped the tailgate WAY too fast.

I then went to Oreilly's and bought a Stabilus #SG330901EZ for less than $20. Both use the same insert in the tailgate and once it is installed, you can not remove it. I just swapped out the mounting pin, bracket, and cylinder. Works great. If your tailgate takes about 4 seconds to drop, you've got the right one.

I put the "LimpdicDeeZee" back on BigBlue and let her go to the next owner.

Update: Sachs/Stabilus has come out with a new part number for the "good" one: 4126ZIA

I think the EZdown is a great idea! I am going to get one for my new Avalanche. Unfortunatly we don't have an O'Reillys around here so I will have to get it for $40 from Advance auto parts.

Its a good idea, if your hands are full. I cringe when I'm forced to just drop the tailgate because I have a bunch of stuff in my hands.

I have a feeling they wouldn't work as great in our -40 weather we get here in the winter though.

I am moving mine from the old truck to the new truck. I will use a 'nutsert' (aka rivet nut?) in place along with a new flat head socket head screw. I already had the installation tool for the nutserts. Just need to order some flat head screws of the correct size, I dont have anything that small.

There are two different models. The one you had worked as it should. It was just not the slower dropping model.

Actually, there are three different models now, with the introduction of the Sachs/Stabilus EzDown XD #4126ZIA.

Nothing better than product improvement.

Picked one up for under $25 and installed in 25 minutes. Would have taken 15 minutes if I'd have done it in the garage instead of freezing my hands outside. But it's really easy.

Why did I get one? As others have mentioned, for my wife and kids for when it's going 'down'. Saves them, and the truck. I haven't actually paid any attention to it being easier to lift. In fact, I didn't even think of that as a feature in the first place.

AutoZone is having a 20% off online orders with free home delivery right now so I ordered the EZlift, a bug shield and some side window vent visors for my new Avalanche yesterday.

For those of you going the Advance Auto way, here's a list of coupon codes if you buy online and pickup at store. Looks like you can get $15 off if you'll buy another cheap item (air freshener, fastener, etc) off the $39.99 price. Makes it much more competitive.

$10 off $30 Coupon Code: ES123

$15 off $40 Coupon Code: BIG15X

$20 off $50 after Coupon Code: ES123

$25 off $70 after Coupon Code: A124

$30 off $90 after Coupon Code: HUGE30

$40 off $110 after Coupon Code: A124

$50 off $175 after Coupon Code: HUGE5

I have the one from amazon, and although it does not drop it as slow as the one I had on my old truck, it still slows it down to where you can unlock and let go and it opens smooth.

I installed mine this morning. It only took about 10 minutes once I found the right allen and box end wrenches. I bought the DZ43101. It may drop the tailgate a little faster than the Stabilus model but it doesn't slam open so I think it is great!
