Do tell? A Ford motor with no issues... what an idea! Oh wait, a quick Google says otherwise... http://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=105452 ... and yes, there's plenty more where that came from. In fact, for everyone that worries about the 5.3 and "oil consumption", you may want to check this one out: http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/2011-mustang-gt-tech/305495-official-coyote-oil-consumption-poll-thread.html

I'm sure the Coyote is a fine motor, but it's not bullet proof.

A loud 5.0, I know one thing, that 5.0 is a lot quieter then these engines are by far... They as whisper quiet compared to the vortec's... I even asked my local buddy/mechanic one day, is my engine suppose to be loud like this??? They tick and tick and hammer like an old tractor compared to the hemi's and new coyote's...

No engine is bulletproof, but i'd take a 5.0L anyday over my 5.3

and the oil consumption problem seems to slow right down or go away totally after the 10,000 mile break in, this engine has been doing it for 50,000 km's... and doesn't stop so....

I've owned two, and both have ran (run) great. Heck, I wouldn't have bought the '08 if I didn't really like the '99. You should post up a video so that we can hear what the racket is about. Mine doesn't do that, and neither do anybody else's that I personally know, nor do the 5.3's I've driven at work. In fact, my old Honda sounds like a sewing machine in comparison.

My buddy said they are all loud like that, just not use to a loud engine... before all the lifters were replaced in mine before I bought it, the owner said the tick it made was real loud and dealer said the same... compared to the others they had with the lifter tick at cold startup

Hemi and 5.0 is quieter is all....

Had a 2001 LS1 in a Firebird that made some noise at start up just like the 2000 5.3 I had previously. Lifter tick or piston slap? Castrol 0W-30 synthetic took care of it in the LS1 & never knew about when the 5.3 was in the driveway.

Looked it up years ago, it is German & the guys on Bob is the oil guy site said it was closer to a 5W-30 by US standards.

Tried Valvoline & Mobil various types of 5W30 & nothing changed until the Castrol went in, specifically 0W-30. Found it at Auto Zone.

Sold that car in 2007 & have not needed that sort of oil since, so not sure if it is still around or changed? But may be worth looking into.
