Cat or Cat-less

Man you guys make it easy.....any meth labs you want to reveal why you're at it? LOL And you're a moderator here LOL....what a freaking joke.

You sir are the joke for letting the Federal Government dictate what you do (exhaust wise) to your truck. Do you really think the EPA is going to come knocking on someones door because you report them as not having cats on there vehicle? Get a life. There are so many more important things out there for them to worry about.

Factory cats are actually high flowing cats, so you can go aftermarket or stock or cat-less, reason I decided to not keep mine was not HP gains or sound but simply cause with 122K, at the time, miles, I think they might have had seen better days. Crazy thing is that I think they might have been getting clogged but it runs sooo much better now that they have been removed. But that could be cause of the headers and other aforementioned items I put on the custom exhaust.

on the 6L it's real bad. if you MUST have your cats off, then put a long glass pack, or resonator in line before the muffler, it will kill the rasp, but not the volume..

IMO-keep the cats..no real performance gains, maybe 1-3 hp if that by removing them unless your cats are clogging up.

Coming from another 6.0L owner. I think the 6.2L will have the same sound

Okay, I think my cats flow just fine so it would be really nice if I could just keep the ones I got. Does anyone know if I will have any trouble connecting these headers to the high flow cats? I was searching the internet and a couple Ram 1500 owners with SW headers had to move their cats back near the tranny pan just wondering if I'll have the same problem. If it'll be pretty painless than I'll probably get these things ordered tonight.

If you order cats made for headers then you will have no problem. Factory ones will have to be moved back.

Do you know if there will be any trouble moving the cats back? I'm trying to stray away from the $1600 price tag on the LT headers with the cats!

Total cost for all parts of my exhaust including install was less than $700. Take it to a good muffler shop and tell them what you want

i don.t think knocking on the door will help, but making it mandatory for all passenger cars, light/medium gas and diesel vehicles registered in the US to be tested every year or every 2 to comply with the standards that came with the vehicle when it left the plant new..

reason 1 keeping our air as clean as possible..

reason 2 $$$ how many vehicles are registered from 1981- now a s**t load.. charge $45-$60 for inspection fees and thats a lot going to the State, and the Federal Government (after their cut 20%) maybe then they can come up with the money for better road repair, and money for improving our schools

Will I need a y pipe or anything like that?

To do longtube headers most people run a different Y-pipe. Some headers come with them. If I ever get headers I'm running them without cats, but I have a Magnflow muffler and it's pretty mellow.

Sorry, but the last thing anyone needs is more transportation laws/fees. It's already expensive as all get out to keep insurance and registration on a vehicle, and I can guarantee you that if a federal inspection was mandated they would find something else to spend 90% of the money stolen on instead of using it for something useful. If you think more regulations helps anything then you don't live in the same country I do.

You did see he lives in California right? I completely agree with you. I lived in CT where we had emissions but no safety inspection, and now live in VA where we have safety but no emissions. The safety inspection runs me $16 per year, and to be honest I think the safety inspection makes a lot more sense than emissions, and can directly result in the vehicles around me being safer to my health (tires not bald as of last inspection, brake pads intact, all the lights work, etc).

Since most of you missed the point I was trying to make let me spell it out for you. If you’re going to do something that is illegal, whether every other redneck in town is doing it also, cover your behind and don’t advertise it….you never know who’s reading your comments. I will apologize for some of my comments today, especially since it is Mother’s Day. I hope you ladies didn’t get your panties wound up too tightly.
