CRAP! With all the American based companies selling out, its no wonder our country is in the state it is!

At least it isn't china. I hate seeing them buy up American interests.

Lost interest in those guys when they sold their commercial tires off to be made in China. Seems like once that starts, leaves you to wonder what is left or changed that they are not telling you.

Pretty sure General is still American owned/made. Whatever, seems like tires are becoming like electronics, doing the whole American made is just unrealistic. I'll buy whatever I think is best.

I just emailed Customer Relations at Cooper Tires out of frustration about this. It might not be appropriate, but it's early, I'm tired and I don't care. I'll let you know their response to this....if I get any at all.

This is what I asked...

I've been buying Cooper tires for my truck because it's a great tire and I'm tired of supporting other countries over my own. I recently heard that Cooper Tires has been bought up by India's Apollo Tyres. So my question to you is this....how long do we realistically have before the tires currently in stock at retailers gets replaced by lesser quality product?

Crap. :sigh:

Who still makes American tires? :flag:

BF Goodrich & Michelin. http://www.michelinman.com/about-us/who-we-are.page

I realize Michelin HQ is not US based, but the tires are made here.

After killing off a set of factory Generals on a 2007 Chevrolet Dually, I bought Michelin LTX's & that truck was used in a commercial environment & loaded heavy most of the time. Sold it at just over the 160,000 mile mark & they were close to needing to be changed. But still 113,000+ miles vs 47,000, sold me. Another aspect was having two flats with the Generals & never once with the LTX's.

Bought a set of Goodyear 399 steer tires for my Peterbilt semi & paid through the nose for them. But was buying from the last American tire company, so doing the right thing? They were shot at around 60,000 & pure junk. Have since replaced with Michelin XZA3's. Steer tires for semi's that are not Chinese are going to run over $1,000 for two, so one does not make these decisions w/o thought.

That said, when the factory Goodyears on the Sierra die off, they will be replaced with a Michelin LTX variant. They are tough to beat long term & check the link for the people they employ & where.

Yes Sir tractor trailer tires are ridiculously priced. Seemed like dad had to sell a kidney every time his needed tires!

Well if you're going by made in America there are tons of choices. But American made and owned is slim pickings.
