Cracked Dash 2008 Silverado LTZ CC VMax

Thanks for the fast response Eddie.

To set the record straight, I failed to mention earlier that GM did offer to partially pay for the dash replacement, but I would still owe $400 to the repair. :nonod: No thanks!

I feel your pain Darmy. Its the principal and safety of it. I always wonder if all the problems with 07-13 GM vehicles will be resolved through a meraculous recall of multiple reoccuring issues, but I doubt it. I feel everyone's pain when I see the common problems that are related to my issues when I research it (Lifters, Paint peeling, Dash Cracking, etc.)

I wish you luck in your local media interview - this day and age all it takes is one video to go viral on the internet and something happens. Heck, if anything you can say you did your part and tryed your best. If you have to fork over the $300 in the end, at least you tried.

My wife's 09 Suburban has that crack above the passenger airbag as well. She can't stand it.

Hi NickZ71,

We regret to learn your wife is also experiencing this concern. We'd be glad to reach out to your dealership on your behalf and work with them toward a resolution. Please send me a private message with your full contact information, last 8-digits of the VIN, mileage and dealership name. We look forward to hearing from you!

Well I did the news media interview! I encourage all of you to file the Car safety FORM on NHTSA. Gov site! Even if you already had the repair done, This is how we are going to get GM to respond to is!

Also contact your local media to do a story on your vehicle and the concerns with this crack! The more that local stations get he stories the greater chance that we will all be grouped together when each station reached out to GM for some action!

Mine cracked this spring.... My friend graciously let me swap the dash with the one he was trading in... Had I had to pay more than a couple cases of beer and 3 hours of my time I would have just ordered one of those glue on plastic covers....

I'm pretty sure mine will crack again

I have a small crack near the passenger airbag, hopefully GM can do something about it. I just had the dash replaced on my wife's 2013 Yukon XL Denali, since it was under warranty, no questions asked, but it was around $900 if I hadnt had the warranty.

I am definitely not paying that to have mine replaced, GM should fix this issue for free.

Does anyone else think the problem with these cracks is starting at the point of the airbag? I was looking closely at the crack and it seems to start at the upper left corner where the airbag meets the dash. If it is cracking from underneath.. It would confirm my thought that pressure from the airbag might be causing this. I can't get any written confirmation that this Is NOT the case! I sincerely hope everyone places their worry of this on the NHTSA.gov site!

Kind Regards!

Hey guys,

I just realized the other day when cleaning my truck that I have two cracks in the dash of my 2007 GMC Sierra with 70K miles. After searching around a little I found that its a pretty common problem for 2007-2013 models.

I have thought about removing the dash and adding Dynamat to the entire thing or at least metal tape to the affected areas. Any thoughts on that? Or does anybody have a pdf for the dash removal?

Hi,

I thought it was just my truck this happen too but I have the same cracks almost in the same area in my 2007 Vmax NBS it's a shame that this stuff happens when you spend this kind of money...I bought my truck brand new in 2007 and have great luck for the most part mechanically but what a pity to have such a nice truck to only get inside and see a cracked dash!!! :(

  • Same thing happened to my 2011 LTZ. Crack at the airbag and then a crack on the hump. I was mad as h$ll! Called GM, they told me to take it to my local dealer, did a goodwill repair with me paying $200. Don't think I should have paid anything since this is so common, but I'd rather pay the $ than have a perfect truck with a cracked dash.

Sorry to hear of your concerns with your cracked dashboard. Have you contacted your dealership about this? I'd be glad to connect with them on your behalf. If you'd like my assistance, please send me a PM here on the site!

Hey You guys, you need to contact your local media and have them just look at all the complaints on this site going back to 2007. I posted previously that it is super important to put your complaint on the NHTSA. Org site . This a transportation and safety problem. GM refuses to recall even tho they are aware of the ongoing problem since 2007 all models of GM vehicles. You should not have to pay a dime to have the dash replaced, as it is either a manufacturer problem or an installation problem.. Or worse the airbag is causing this to happen. The National Highway Transportation and Safety.org site is the only way for GM owners to truly be heard regarding this problem! Please please post your concerns there., To get this recalled or at minimum to get GM to issue a safety statement to all of us, and replace the dashes for free! Your local news channel can help with the investigative reporting on this matter. All they have to do is look at this forum to see the complaints dating so far back, and Google the problem as it is all over the Internet.
