stevev Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) ^I agree and if you look at his "current' mpg to the left of the bar when he took that picture, it says only 15mpg. What part of the PA turnpike? Because it's hilly in western PA but then flatter out east. Actually, BringtheRain403, I sent you a PM a few months ago asking about mpgs driving here in Pittsburgh and you told me you were only getting 12mpg locally and 20mpg on a highway trip. I took a highway trip this past weekend up I-79 in western PA and got 20 to 21mpg going around 70mph. And I'm getting 15mpg locally. Edited September 3, 2014 by stevev
Joshua022 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 My 4.3 is getting 19 around town and 26 on the highway, I got 647 miles on one tank back and forth from the beach. Of course I'm obsessed with mileage soo results may vary..
BringTheRain403 Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 (edited) Was this from a standing start or was this 25 miles with the gauge reset while you were already rolling along at 75 mph? There are lots of games you can play to make the gauge look good, but is that your real fuel economy? My 5.3, 3.42 gear, 4x4 with 20" factory wheels gets on average 20.5 if I stay on the highway and at around 65mph. 70-80mph and it is lucky to see 19.2. My truck has 20,000 miles on it now, so it is fully broken in too. Mike The screens you see above have never been reset since I bought the truck. This was on the tail end of the trip from Cranberry Twp, pa to Bedford Springs, PA (about 120 miles). Also, if you reset those screens the "best 25, 50, and 400" sections don't show unless you've actually gone at least the distance on those screens. They are just dashes until you've actually gone those distances. ^I agree and if you look at his "current' mpg to the left of the bar when he took that picture, it says only 15mpg. I took that trip before the truck was broken in I can constantly get 22/23 on the highway now. I average about 14 mpg with my normal usage for a tank of gas now. I only have 9400 miles on the truck in a year so it took a while to get it broken in. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk 2 Edited September 4, 2014 by BringTheRain403
BringTheRain403 Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 (edited) Few more from the trip. I took a few cause the mpg's kept going up... Best 50 average is 25.1 from the same stretch Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk 2 Edited September 4, 2014 by BringTheRain403 1
coder Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) I drive ~ 20 miles on the highway to work each day and about 1.5 miles off the highway and have been averaging ~ 17.4... I've averaged over 20 on longer trips on cruise. (5.3L A/T) Edited September 6, 2014 by coder
bass mechanic Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 i bet GM just gets giddy with Joy when they see their customers bragging about MPG! i posted a few pages back about my 450 mile tank average of 22 mpg i think thats pretty impressive for a 6.2 and now that i have the supercharger i still get the same highway MPG but the city take a little more work to stay out of the boost.
surebuttercringe Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 How about some real world numbers and not stuff pulled from the DIC that can be manipulated? Keep in mind, these are numbers with a level, body lift and 33" tall all terrains. 5.3L, 3.42 gears. 50/50 highway/city driving.
bigsapper Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 The one gauge you can't trick is your wallet. ;)
Tungsten14 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 my '14 4x4 doublecab with the 5.3 and 3.08's has averaged 20.5 mpg in mixed driving over the 4500 miles i've had it. i commute 38 miles each way to work daily, with about 30 being semi flat land, and the last 8 uphill. on just flat land driving i have been able to average as high as 21.8 mpg on longer drives.
BringTheRain403 Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) Don't know how you can manipulate the "best" number since it won't even show up until you actually travel the distance in question Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk 2 Edited September 6, 2014 by BringTheRain403

Best 50 average is 25.1 from the same stretch Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk 2 I have 6800 miles on my 5.3 GMC 3.42 4 door 2 wheel drive 20" wheels. I have never got anything like this and I live in SW Ga it's pretty flat here Norm
glcbn Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 99MPG???? Pretty certain it's going downhill, or gas pedal hasn't been touched for a bit. Ever watch the DIC fuel average when going downhill. It'll peg at 99 mpg. Someone posted before that the 25 mile avg. is a joke. Do a 400 mile avg. and come back with those same numbers. I think they will be just a bit different.
BringTheRain403 Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 Dude it was on cruise control. And I'm sorry but I'd love for you to find me a down hill grade that lasted 25+ miles. 50 mile best was 25.1 Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk 2 1

Only takes about 10 seconds of little to no positive throttle to get it to peg 99 mpg. I have no doubt you get excellent mileage, but you get a much better (true) average number when you do a 400 mile. What do you get when you do hand calculations when you fill up? BringTheRain403 Posted September 7, 2014 Author Posted September 7, 2014 Never really worried that much about it cause 99% of my driving is short 3 miles or less. The instant goes up to 99% fast but the best 25 mile average is just that. That best average over a 25 mile stretch and that's what I'm referring to. I could care less about the green bar...
