I'd say it's probably the winterblend gasoline that's hurting your mileage.

I was thinking the same thing, but would winterblend really drop my mileage by 5 mpg?

I really don't think so but I guess it could. Or it could be just some bad gas. You could always try a bottle of Techron and some good quality fuel and see if that helps.

I purchased the 4.3 with 4wd and 3.42 rear end. I'm seeing 23-25mpgs highway and 18-20 city the truck only has about 1400 miles on it. I really want to run a tank of e85 just to see.

Trust me, it's the winter blend plus cold temps. I've had my 2014 crew 4X4 5.3 with 3.08's since July 13, the two summers I've had it I got 20+ MPG all day long, last winter I was lucky to make 18MPG, now that it is getting cold again I'm back to 18MPG. Use Mobil gas on a regular basis 87 octane, ran several full tanks of 93 octane with no MPG improvement so save you money.

I agree. Right before it started getting colder in mid October (especially in the mornings), I was working on averaging 21mpg. Now I'm lucky to stay above 18. Gas has always been Sunoco. Thought about going back to 87, but being there isn't much price difference now, I'll probably continue to use 93.

Last winter i was lucky to get 12 around town. To aid the catalytic converter light off the truck runs really rich when cold.

I have been reading some of the posts in this topic and I am curious why is my truck getting such a horrible mpg. I picked up my truck this past October and i was getting an average of 16-19.5. Now that it is winter i am getting 12-13. I drive 20 miles to work, mostly highway. I Did some mods to the truck such a RL leveling kit, Amp research power steps, bug deflector and windows visor etc. I tried 93 octane as well as 87 and no difference in mpg. I want to mention though that I am only going by the what the display is showing, I have not calculated my mpg manually. I still think that it is very low compare to what some of you are getting. I also want to point that I only have 600 plus miles on the truck and it is a crew cab with standard bed and the Z71 package and a 3.08 axle ratio.

Any ideas, what could be the cause.

These engines don't like the winter attentive they put in.

I drove up north hunting and when we got home I filled up from one of the guys farm fuel tanks.

Did that rather than giving me gas money.

My millage went right back up. Why!!! summer gas still in his tanks.. In fact he deliberately fills them before the winter gas comes out.

He has issues with one of his tractors on winter gas... OF course the one he plows the snow with.

I assume the difference I still saw 1 mpg was temperature related.

All the vehicles I've ever owned always get noticeably worse mileage in winter - I didn't know the culprit was winter blend till reading this thread.

Looks like I have the same truck as Luis. I only run regular gas and my average mpg went from about 19 to about 15 - must be thanks to the winter blend. I don't care how easy I am on the pedal, on average it just won't do much better, but when I don't baby it, it sure is easy to watch it go lower.

19 to 15 is a 20% drop. If only 2% reduction in energy...the rest is ecm adjustments for emissions.

Evaporation?

Aren't our fuel systems closed? Once the fuel is in the tank/system, is it capable of evaporating? I think its nothing more than a bunch of bureaucratic BS as always. Our beloved gov telling us what is best for us. Just like the emissions testing. It's not necessary anymore, but they still do it.
