Infotainment system questions...

Just figured out on my way to work this morning, if you touch the clock, a big fancy clock with the date shows up.

Good to know. I didn't know this either.

So there's two different infotainment systems for these trucks in the 8" right? I see some pics of a weather icon and a video icon and I'm thinking that comes on the one with the navi. Mines just the basic, call onstar for directions (or use the mylink app) and you get a basic arrow telling you were to go but no map. You need to put a movie on a sd card if you want to watch a movie on it. I wish I could get the weather app on the screen from weather.com basically like how Pandora works now. I also tried my ipad on it through the USB and tried to watch a movie, got sound but no picture.

I'm not sure the video app got baked in on the navi either. At least mine doesn't have it. In fact, I can't even figure out what format is needed for videos.

Have you actually been able to watch movies on it? I have tried and only get sound but no video.

Hey does anyone know what the largest SD card the infotainment system will recognize is?

I called the intellilink help line about a week ago and asked a bunch of questions (none of them were answered) and one of them was about the apps. The rep sat quiet for a second and then was like I've never heard of that. He acted like I just asked him to do Chinese algebra....

AS soon as you pair your phone, if you have Pandora App on your phone ( don't quote me on having the app, i have it) you just hit the pandora icon on the screen and boom!! music. I like that i can also play songs off my phones google play using media, or amazon! also you can record a song and replay it if you like with the icons on the bottom of the screen!!

Well I have had my 2014 Z71SLT for 5 weeks and I can tell you that I absolutely hate this system. It is not user friendly. Navigation in my 2011 Acadia is much better. In fact everything is better. Voice recognition is not great. Did I mention that Navigation is aweful. There were more choices in earlier models. Not only was it easier to store and access destinations, it was easier to get to your favorites. I tell ya. I had a chance to buy a 2013 Denalli new and this 2014 for very little difference and I wish I had taken the 2013.

I have the 2014 GMC Sierra SLT with the 8" navi infobedamned radio, aside from the nav voice being to darn loud an unable to go below 21 on volume, the steering wheel controls for changing stations really suck, with the lag time and the double pressing after the center DIC shows the stations its pretty much useless to try tuning the radio with the steering wheel controls. And when turning the volume control the lag from turning to actual volume going up or down is pretty annoying It sounds okay but its useability is light years behind most aftermarket systems currently available. unfortunately the things you lose with the aftermarket and the fact that your taking out a brand new system to put them in makes it a undesireable option. Sorry GMC you missed it by a mile on this system.

Man, I thought I was the only one. Here I am a true blue GM guy and excited about getting my first new Gmc truck in many years and I am regretting it. This system is awful. When you use the phone the display changes to the phone screen and never changes back after you end the call. I can go on and on. If GM 's goal was to help drivers keep their eyes on the road as advertised then they failed.

I only hope this system is updatable / upgradable in the future.

While this system has issues it is better than the Ford system, I traded a 2013 Explorer because the system was difficult to use and would lock up and when I would take it to the dealer they would tell me " could not duplicate fault". One time half of the dash stopped working. This system while limited see to me to be more reliable then Fords.

    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
    • He is not saying that an SAE *W20 will have more viscosity than a *W40 due to MORE VII polymers. He is saying that although multiple *W40 may post in the PDS the same or similar 100 C and 150 C viscosities that the blenders choice of modifier TYPE and AMOUNT to get his chosen base to grade will not give identical real world viscosities in shear and at temperature. All will pass the SII test but not all will pass the 100 C HTHS (unpublished value) testing the blender does and relies on to get the required by law "percentage improvement' referenced to his last great work.    Tis the problem with the lie. Once told others are required to support it.
    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.
