blckthree Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 For the technologically challenged a Makes me glad I have the 8" MyLink without the NAV now, I just plug my iphone in with google maps. For the technologically challenged among us, like me, when you "plug in" your iphone, does the google maps display on the MyLink screen? The thought of OEM Nav has always intrigued me, but any Garmin unit is so much more user friendly and now with free map updates for life they are hard to beat. Mike

Mike No, the sound just goes through the radio. FWIW, Apple was talking about integrating things like that with ios7, and GM has an appshop coming up, so it's a possibilty that will happen in the future.
blckthree Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 For a large additional fee from GM, I'm sure. Mike
MotoMedic Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I've seen pictures of (8"?) tablets fit nicely into the rectangular console space on 2014 trucks with the bucket seats. For less than the price of the navigation feature one could get have a GPS equipped tablet displaying google maps (and whatever else) on a better display than the factory unit. Probably some law against that around here though... I agree, there's definitely better alternatives... but if you're like me, you're only interested in the ones which are integrated into the vehicle. I'm sure eventually a few companies will figure out how to hack into and seamlessly add to / enhance the factory system. Until then, we get to guess & rant on here.
Stex Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 This has been helpful on the nav issues. Was leaning for it (would be my first in car nav). Will skip that option, along with cooled seats and the look out we are crashing warning system. That saves over 2 grand there.
GMC-AT Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 but the factory navi is tied into the speakers of the truck... and it turns up and down volume automatically when it speaks..which I like. Me personally .. I don't want to use my smartphone for navi if I don't have to. Yes, google is the best navi there is.. but I hate using my phone for it. Music is the same way... I want all of it on a separate SD chip I can pop in the truck. Just my personal thing.. I like the droid for just phone, email, text.. thats it.

I never wanted built in navigation until I had it now I need it. It's just way more convenient...Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
b1gted Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 I wish you could upgrade the unit that doesn't have it. The truck I bought doesn't have it, and I couldn't find the truck with it with the options I wanted so I settled for non-nav. I just wish it was a simple download and plug in gps antenna option. :-)
GMCustomerService Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Hi all! I stopped by the local dealership today to get my trade-in appraised in anticipation of offering a 2014 SLT. While I was there I looked at a 2014. Just a couple quick questions about the infotainment system for the few lucky ones here that have one in the garage... How do you connect to the internet to use Pandora? Can you tether to your phone or mobile Wi-Fi hotspot? I couldn't tell in the settings. Are you able to stream iHeart radio or SiriusXM via Bluetooth to the radio? If so does it impact the Bluetooth link for using the phone? Thank you in advance! Rich Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 Hello, I understand that you are just looking into getting a new 2014 but Infotainment General Support is a great resource even if you only have questions. Their number is 855-478-7767. Regards, Jennifer T. GM Customer Care

So does the iphone when plugged into the usb port, as long as you're listening to something on the iphone. For me, I use the phone for everything, Pandora, and the SiriusXM App.
