I bought the female ends and cut off the red plastic on the ends. I had to drill the plug and clearance it to fit the female ends. Ran it through the plug and soldered the ends on.

The main lead from the plug is appx 8" long. Since the box is on the drivers side, I made that side a little shorter. I made it longer so I can trim it to fit tomorrow. The drivers side is 7.5' and the pass side is 10.5'. I soldered all the wires together, electrical taped them and then used heat shrink. I globbed silicone in the plug end and its drying now. Tomorrow I'll clean it up and have wire loom to cover it all with.

Not bad for less than an hours work.

Thanks for the tip! I copied this on my 2014. I purchased $10 worth of white LED strips from Amazon and wired it all up to three sides in under an hour. My favorite upgrade so far. It blows the factory version away.

I am looking to help a buddy wire some lights in his 2015. I understand that GM changed the plug from 6 pins to 8 pins at some point and I am trying to figure out which one he will need to get. Did you order the 8 pin plug when you really needed the 6 pin plug?

Yes i did. I just went ahead and purchased the GM bed lighting kit and some LED strip lights off of amazon. Sometimes easier is worth the extra cash. The 8 pin is good for the 2500s and up and i believe some older model 1500s. Just climb under and look at the plug and see. I still have the 8 pin harness if you need it. Just pay shipping and its yours.

Okay that makes sense. He took a look and it said the dummy plug is a 6 pin, the only problem is that I have found the two different part numbers for the harnesses, but I have yet to find a good description of which harness is which. I have a hard time blindly trusting the fitment guides online, but from these I am thinking that the 6 pin harness should be 23327843, and the 8 pin harness should be 22878806. You wouldn't happen to have the part number for the 8 pin harness you bought would you?

You are correct with your part numbers. 806 is the 8 pin.

Awesome, thank you for the direction! Now to figure out if it is going to be easier to find just the harness 23327843 (not interested in the OEM lights), or if it is going to be easier to use the dummy plug to make a harness.

Appreciate the link! I will look into it a bit. I have found a handful of sites that sell it, but almost all of the sites have terrible ratings with a lot of people claiming that they have been waiting several months and are not able to contact the sellers.

You didn't happen to find the light side of the plug did you? I've been putting off finishing mine because I don't really want to cut the ends off the main harness and go directly to the leds I have.

I don't have a set of lights to check against.  I used some LED strip light to make my own LED ligthing

    • I am not techy at all but wondered if you have the truck running but sitting still in park as some functions gray out as soon as the truck is moving. I believe in the settings for updates you can choose for it NOT to update and I wonder by chance if maybe that was chosen before and now it won't allow you to chose to press update, I think that is back in the settings menu where it has all the items one wants on or off etc. Also I assume you have a wifi connection and checked that it has some signal strength, not that it would have anything to do with the grayed out updates choice in that case. What I am thinking out loud of here may be be of no value but thought I would suggest it, sometimes it can be the simplest thing that resolves an issue.
    • The so called rare failure that some certainly liked to tout ( die hard Ford fan boys ) as per the lifter failing and wiping out the cam. Back when it started happening the blame was being pointed to the lifters and honestly I never did hear anything myself conclusively one way or the other on that. Ford themselves in I believe 2024 had a technical bulletin I will call it that came out and for some engine platforms they were reprograming the engines idle speed but also they had a software update for the oil pump which then some time later was said what that software update did as to be increasing the oil pressure at idle. It is a good question if that issue was completely solved as one Ford specialist mechanic youtuber said he saw failures after that time period. Like anything there would be the variables, what oil is being used and the OCI and how much idle time gets put on an engine. I've seen some comments to claim that the L8T isn't so happy with high idle time either but I also know that companies that require their vehicle to idle a lot on the job don't tend to get the oil changed often enough for all those hours of idle time and go off of the odometer.
    • My 2026 Silv. 1500 WT (reg cab/short bed/4wd) has the 40/20/40 with storage in lower middle seat as well as the fold-down center bolster/armrest.   With the dual glove boxes this is about as much storage as possible in a std cab IMHO. Bill
    • I have a 2026 base 1500 "WT" regular cab with basic Chevy "Infotainment 3" 7-inch screen/radio. How many speakers do I have If I want to upgrade? Is the audio amp separate from the radio/display unit]? [I listen to classical and it gets a bit raspy at slightly higher volumes. Don't need a sub etc.] Do I have two or 1 speakers in the doors? etc. Thanks Bill  San Jose
    • probably won't get a response from that user, as they haven't returned to the site since making that one post.  users don't (at least I don't, and I haven't seen any setting which would notify me via say, email) get any notification other than going to this site, and checking if they got a response on their thread...
