Shopping for shocks

So I'm thinking the shocks are the culprit of my towing woes. Since I have a "non" HD 2500 (Avalanche) I'm guessing that it has "plush" style shocks on it. What do I need to look for in a heavy duty shock? Does anyone know what GM puts on the stock HD's? I don't really care about rideability, I just want to be able to pull my trailer and not feel like I'm driving a 82 Caprice with blown shocks!

I have owned multple GM trucks and SUVs and without exception the factory shocks blew out in less than 30,000 miles. I would bet your truck's shocks are not really providing much dampening and it is simply more noticeable with a trailer hitch pressing down at the rear.

Bilstein 5100 shocks are the best you can get and for the rear will cost you less than $200. There are ones for lifted and non-lifted trucks. Next best are the Rancho 9000XL adjustable shocks which is what I now have on my 2500HD. My next set will be Bilstein 5100's.
