You were driving down the highway at 50 and couldn't see 15' in front of you? Thank God you live in Canada and not around here so I don't have to worry about you running me over on the highway some night.

4wd auto is awesome, I will always make sure my truck comes with it. I do alot of hwy driving to see family and we get crazy weather. Few weeks ago crazy down pour at night, couldn't see sh#t. Was driving 50mph on hwy with 4wd auto on. Could feel it engage alot. Water was over taking the hwy. Couldn't see 15 feet in front of me. Was driving blind :-!

Next time you find yourself in that situation, think about this.

Something else for the OP. The Denali is only available in crew cab, where as the SLT had both the ext & crew. Not many reg cab Sierras running around & not even sure I have seen a SLT reg cab in the gmt 900.

Had a 2010 Denali for 3 years, averaged 16.2 mpg for the last 50,000, the truck ran so flawlessly that I just picked up a new 2013 (2010 was sitting at 203,000) love the new truck

Yeah, but thanks to the Auto4WD he was able to hit it square on, rather than sliding into it sideways.

I use the Auto4WD on my '06 Sierra SLT a lot in the winter with broken snow patches on the road. It is seamless in operation. Either that or it is not functioning at all and I'm just really good at snow-driving with only 2WD.

I live in Northern BC, winter is 20 long weeks, I've never lost control of the truck under any conditions and I drive about 5000 miles a mon

What do you want me to do. Drive at 40mph.i would be rear ended by other drivers. It was easy to drive 70, 80kmh with 4 auto. I used a transport truck as guide. But it was bad weather. Maybe I should of drove 60kmh but I had crazy ppl driving past me! Don't judge.

Not judging. I know the feeling of being in a group of vehicles pushing the limits of driving safely. Not fun.

We had a similar situation in the NW part of ND but with fog. Most of the time visibility was under 100'. People drove like madmen, still going the speed limit (70mph) or faster. "Time is money!" is the motto of the oil patch. Unfortunately a loaded tanker truck tried to turn onto a side road and got hit in the middle of the trailer and others kept running into them. After the oil burned out a couple hours later they found a total of 5 vehicles involved. They had to ID 2 people by DNA and dental records because there's not much left after being on fire for that long. If even some of them slowed down it would have saved a few lives.

focus guys. Keep on topic, this thread was about the SLT and Denali.

Besides, I'm from western Canada and we all know we're the best drivers.

We have to be with our driving conditions :)

Not ALL GMC Sierra Denalis are AWD, a 2WD can be an option too. All 6.2L's though, until this new 2K body style comes out.

The Denali is hard loaded. I think the few options are the AWD, Sunroof, color, and NAV.

original poster stated he wanted 4wd/AWD - while there is a 5.3L option for the Denali it is only available with 2WD, the AWD dictates having 6.2L.

as far as differences between AWD and 4WD:

I occasionally use Auto 4WD when there is inclement weather. I don't really notice it changing and it's nice for when there is spotty areas of dry pavement mixed with questionable areas (I travel a route with elevated road that has metal expansion joints that will make you slip when wet that annoy me, auto 4wd takes care of that). When I'm off road when is typically dirt and partially graveled logging roads and it's wet I will use regular 4 high. Using 4 high on dry pavement will cause excess wear and tear and you will feel binding when turning, Auto 4WD helps to prevent you from accidentally doing this.

I was in your same shoes a year ago, debating on which truck to buy. 5.3l slt or denali with 6.2. I almost bought a 5.3l until i heard the issues with the afm. did my homework, then found a awesome deal on my current truck, 2010 gmc denali 6.2l awd. I avg 13.8-14.5l/100km which is roughly 17mpg +/-. I am glad i went with the 6.2l and awd over the 5.3l. have put about 30k on it since I bought it and its awesome. my brother inlaw has a 5.3l silverado and avgs 14.6-15l/100km... so technicaly i am getting better fuel milage then the 5.3l (all depends how you drive tho) so id say the difference is so little you wouldnt know. but then to have the extra power and the 403hp is awesome.

my denali towes awesome as well. pulled my parents 35' 9000lb camper home and towed great! i went hunting last week and towed 2 atv's and all are gear and stuff up and back. went from 14.2l/100 to 14.7/100 km in 12 hours of driving (approx 1100km round trip)

Also they say to put 91 octane in my truck. I run 87 with no issues. when i tow, ill put 91 in, but other then that i run 87 and have no issues.

6.2l denali over 5.3l slt any day!! good luck with the search.

Thanks for the info. Here's a kick in the pants. I found an amazing deal on a 2013 crew cab SLT with only 27k km's on it. (no nav or sunroof, but otherwise loaded) Basically it was a brand new truck. Made a deal and settled on a price of $32,700. (smoking deal here in Alberta) Only to find out the next morning I had lost the deal to another buyer because the night before the salesman and I had not put the deposit down on the truck to hold it while they went through the finance process with me.

I'm back to looking.

Thanks for the responses, they are much appreicated.

I like the ideal of the AWD, but doesn't the Auto setting in the SLT pretty much do the same thing? Or is the 30% / 70% split in the AWD not exist in the SLT with the Auto set for the 4x4?

Now, the comment about "All GM vehicles with metal panels are galvanized." I would like more discussion around. When did this start becoming standard? My 2002 SLT does not have galvanized body panels, hense the rust through issue i'm experiencing. I was told by a salesman that only the Denali had galvanized body panels but since I could not find information about this and was looking at the more expenisive Denali, I discounted his comment as a sales tactic.

I build inground pools with my dad for his business, steel wall with a vinyl liner and the walls are galvanized steel. Over time any galvanized steel will start to rut, just depends on weather conditions and such.
