New ford, maybe. New Titan? Not likely.

This. The import brands will have their buyers but unless something earth shattering happens they will not touch the three domestic brands.

Every Internet website, magazine's all were handed 5.3L with either 3:08,3:42, nothing in a gear selection of 3:73.GM hurt the debue of the Gen 5 EchoTec3 5.3L. by hamstringing it against Ford's MaxTow and Rams 5.7L with the 8 speed. All tow/bed payloaded elaspe's times were way behind the competition or we ran mid pack. The 3:73 should had been avail to the press when the 3:42,3:08 axles were introduced. So as to even up the test.

They want the 3.08 out there to show the better fuel mileage. That is the more important thing these days.

Again...for the 100th time... towing isn't everything. Most will never tow... and those that do are towing a small trailer or small boat in 98% of cases. More than enough for the 3.08 or 3.42\

Remember.. these "base" 5.3 / 3.08 trucks of today can tow what HD truck were towing 20 years ago.

The guys towing 8K or more often are using duallys or HD trucks like they should.

This is true but they should have shortened up 1st gear more to compensate (like they did in A6 camaros and G8's), through the 1/4 mile the 3.08 and 3.42 trucks are within a tenth or 2, but to 60 mph its like 1/2 a second - that is HUGE in day to day driving and IMO will probably end up yielding lower gas mileage overall.

I was toying w/ swapping my truck for one equipped w/ a 3.42 rear but it is diffcult to find one how I want it - they're either non SLT's or they're SLT's that are more optioned out than I need/want (don't wanna pay for sunroof, collision/lane departure warning, cooled seats, stuff like that)

I think I'd be better off waiting until the GM parts kit for the 3.73 comes out and paying for the gear change/retune. Now THAT will be a real SOTP and be a real benefit towing-wise

Overall I like the truck, don't get me wrong.

Wait until the press gets there hands on a 6.2 truck. Even with 3.08 or 3.42 gears it will smoke the competition in pure performance.

I just drove one, thinking of upgrading the 2011. In short, I didn't see any reason to upgrade at this time. The extra power was nice. I'd say the 87 to 88 comparison is about the 13 to 14....less truck like and more car like. However, the k2 does feel like an updated GMT 400, and looks like it too.
