2014+ Mud Guards / Flaps

Word of advice guys! If you have the guards installed at the dealership, you better make sure that their techs understand that they need to read the directions and leave all of the fender spats on the truck. The idiot that installed mine pulled all of them off and threw them away even though you can obviously tell that the guards are molded to fit around the factory pieces. Now, I have gaps where they should be. My coworker, the service manager is not gonna be too happy when I go in next week and order all four of my spats from GM and another complete set of guards for front and rear since these are now ruined and must be replaced. His wonder boy tech that failed to read the instuctions just cost him a nice little wad of cash and I am gonna fight for my installation labor to be refunded too. I will replace everything and do it myself this time, I just hope he didn't screw up anything that I can't see since the guards are covering the areas where the spats were. I realized after reading the GM service manual that all four factory pieces have retainers that clip into the body and must be released to be removed, so I hope this ignoramous didn't snatch them off and damage the body panels and paint. Now I know how a lot of you "regular" customers feel about dealers since it even happens to me and I work at one! LOL

The guards might be reusable. The bigger concern is whether or not the holes drilled front and rear are in the right location. If not, you'll have to drill new holes in new locations on new guards, which would be a pain because IIRC the guards come marked with spots where the holes are supposed to go. Will they work if the holes are 1/2 an inch off? Sure, but it then becomes a jury rig installation, and much harder to do if you want them to look perfect. Still can't believe your dealer tech didn't comprehend the guards fit over the stock moldings because they are a perfect fit and color match. I still think it should be a factory option.

Next time skip the drilling and go with the WeatherTech no-drill splash guards. Drilled hole WILL rust.

Sorry, read all the posts,still do not understand. Just got the 2014 Sierra 1500 all terrain,want mud flaps. The husky product just shows a few screws for the back and one for the top of the front. these are out for the '14s now. The GMC oem ones use these nut serts things insted of screws? If the husky ones are that much easier to put on are they as reliable. I am looking at just the plain black gm part # 22894866 and 22894860. I have put flaps on about 10 trucks and they all just screwed in no special tools. any further explanations would be greatly appreciated. Don't trust the dealer and it's too cold to mess around with a big headache now. thanks

Using a longer/size up of the factory type of self taping screw will work but GM must think the stress from snow, ice, etc might require more "beef". GM may be overkill or the aftermarket may be a future reliability issue. I have the factory guards too and will probably install with screws/silicone and then keep an eye on them. Fenders are galvanized metal so I don't see a concern with rust. A dab of good silicone in the hole and along the inner mud guard will increase durability. Worst case add a nutsert or two later!

Edit-Use clear Tub and Tile silicone on prepped/clean surfaces.

maybe my rear wheel wells are different. I can get to the area behind the plastic trim it is all open and I can see the metal behind the trim. pc. Suppose that if I wanted to I could just drill a little larger hole put some machine thread bolts and washers and a nut on the back side. There is that carpet like liner but no where does it contact the area where the flap screws go. I would think the flap it self would give way before the metal would bend because of ice or snow overload. Now only decision is Husky or GM flaps

 

Decided to go husky, they were on sale at auto anything for $64 for set of front and rears,verses $90 for GM version.

If my garage had less stuff in it and allowed more un-encumbered access to the truck I don't think it would've been any problem to have done them in the estimated 30 minutes/set that is book time. Straight forward install, used silicone caulk around all drilled holes to help protect

Got off ebay from Abernathy Chevy on the east coast for 85 shipped, pretty happy with them, should look good when I eventually get a black nerf bar/running board on it

I believe those are the factory GMC ones, if they are check gmaccessorieszone.com for the factory PN's and pricing. Should be pretty similar to the bowties ones, dealership will likely charge half an hour of labor per set if you want them dealer installed.

I had mine installed at the dealer, it was $80 for 1 hour. Worth every penny to me!!

Does anyone know if there is the aftermarket mud flaps (i.e. Husky or Weathertech) made for the 2014 Silverado will also fit the Sierra? I know that the fenders are basically the same, but the GMC has that small plastic fender flare on it. Will that fender flare interfere with these mudflaps? I want to get a set for the front because my nerf bars are always covered in mud. Thanks.
