It goes V1, VR, then V2

read this offical tsb from GM on nitrogen, a local "stealer ship" adds a "nitro". Pin strips and nitrogen filled tires for a low price of 599.00

Wow. That is some fantastic sales BS. Whoever wrote that must be very proud of themselves. I love how there are no outright statements on the benefits, just vague recommendations that it should help. Plus they point out it's used in automotive racing so therefore it has to be good.

I love how they comment that using nitrogen will eliminate seeping pressure loss due to eliminating the oxygen from the tire....well, shouldn't that happen naturally over time? If the air you're putting into your tire is roughly 78% nitrogen and 20% oxygen, and the oxygen leaks out, eventually your tire should be filled with nearly pure nitrogen on its own as the tire itself is acting as a filter medium, haha.

Hi,

Just got a 2014 Sierra All-Terrain in Tri Coat White. Surfing and reading all the pages has been fun. My tires are filled to 40 PSI and the TPMS lights are still on. Door sticker says 35PSI. What are your tires filled to?

The light is on when set to 35 PSI. Then dash said to add air so I did. I understand what you mean by over inflation. Delivered to me with 40 and I dropped it to 35. Light is on at both 35 and 40 PSI. Thanks for the input.

Lol. Warranty. You are right. I was just wondering if I'm missing something. I'm totally new to gmc. Only have 142kms so far. Next time I'm near the dealership, ill ask them.

Probably the TPMS sensors need to be sync'd to the system. Maybe the tires/wheels were swapped out before you got the truck or they were not sync'd at the factory. In any event, make the dealer fix it as suggested.

Nitrogen reduces the likelihood of tire pressure loss in extreme temperature changing environments. It is negligible and probably something that will have little benefit for most. If you go from highway to crossing streams or mudding it can improve pressure moderation / retention. I have seen it available for a $5 up charge not $50. It just not convenient so I use air. In the performance vehicle world we use Nitrogen only because it is beet for the tires and at $1600 per wheel you are going to whatever you can to preserve their integrity.

Agreed, much less fluctuation in air pressure, air loss since the nitrogen molecules are larger. Costco fills all replacement tires with nitrogen.

I'm confused by your response. (I've interpreted it as a response to the GM pdf )

I read it as: GM's position is they do not oppose using nitrogen (as opposed to they favour using nitrogen)

They also say they expect any benefits to be minimal.

From the pdf link posted above: (the first paragraph)

General Motors does not oppose the use of purified nitrogen as an inflation gas for tires. We expect the theoretical benefits to be reduced in practical

use due to the lack of an existing infrastructure to continuously facilitate inflating tires with nearly pure nitrogen. Even occasional inflation with

compressed atmospheric air will negate many of the theoretical benefits. Given those theoretical benefits, practical limitations, and the robust design

of GM original equipment TPC tires, the realized benefits to our customer of inflating their tires with purified nitrogen are expected to be minimal.
