Air Intake - 2014 Chevrolet Silverado & GMC Sierra 1500

I see there are many Air Intake aftermarket options. I installed one back in the day on my Ford Diesel made by Banks. It really gave the truck some extra pep. Are these performance improvements accurate and or as significant with a Gasoline engine? Does anyone have any experience with these and can you help with some information to assist with a decision? Lastly, I am getting out of my 6.2L and going down to the 5.3l engine. I am doing this mainly because of how loud the 6.2L engine is. I really like the rumble and it purrs beautifully but I am a firefighter and EMT and I have to get up in the middle of the night and race to the station frequently. All my neighbors know when I have a call so I am looking forward to the quieter engine. Do these air intakes make the engine noise levels change one way or the other?

Any air intake that removes the factory bellows will make the engine louder.

 

Don't waste your money on crappy ricer intakes. Your stock unit is sealed from the engine bay heat. Personally i would wait until airaid brings out a replacement tube for the 2014's.

 

Just replace the stock paper filter. Stick with AFE or Amosil synthetic filters. The filtering ability and air flow with those two brands has been tested to be the best.

Volant has a full tube with a sealed box for the 2014.

All you need is the air raid junior kit when it comes out. The only benefit you will see from an after market intake on a non heavily modified 5.3 (heads, cam, nitrous) is sound. I personally love the sound of these trucks with an intake so that's why I would get the air raid jr because it will replace the massive resonator and wrinkle tubing and give you the sound while still giving you a sealed box filter.

I was reading somewhere a while back about one of the tune companys that had did a dyno test on the different intake/filter combination and the results showed gains with them all!Hopefully that is true.

The first time I went to Airaid's website they didn't have dyno numbers for the 2014 systems. They have now added dyno numbers.

 

 

I emailed Airaid regarding the curves. They said "1)stock, 2) with the Airaid intake and 3) with the Airaid intake and a tune. These numbers are an average of several runs."

I was going to say the same thing, 25bhp increase from a CAI kit. If so that is pretty impressive. I would like to see the gains on the 6.2l then as well, I am leaning towards their system once it comes out for my truck.

When you say tube, do you mean just the tube from their standard full kit or do you mean the Jr. tube?

Pretty sure the one BB tested was their MIT tube. No new airbox.

Been doing a good amount of research online in other forums (Jeep, Ford, older GMCs) and so far I'm yet to find a review that says the installers noticed a difference in performance or MPG after installation of the MIT. A couple of people even said they can't hear a difference. I guess the gains are so small of a percentage compared to overall power that unless your an expert, it would be pretty hard to tell a difference.
