tailgate won't open

Mine's been OK thus far -- even after the LINE-X install -- but was curious in the offhand chance I ever encounter a similar issue down the road.

On my 2002 Chevy pickup I put in the tailgate sealer to keep the dust out and I couldn't open the tailgate after I closed it. It took me almost 20 minutes to get it open and I took the sealer off and never used it again. Boy I was happy to get the tailgate open after this incident.

mine froze to the tonneau cover while i was out hunting.

i cant open my tonneau cover unless the tailgate is down..

 

ran athin knife between the tonneau and top of the tailgate broke the frost and it opened.

My tailgate would not open nor could I lift my tonneau cover after a recent snow and thaw cycle. As above, I found the tonneau seal was iced in place to the top of the tail gate. Broke the seal free and all it good.

 

I will put some silicone spray on the seal to minimize this.

I dont remember exactly what they said was the root or if they knew. Something was said about maybe when linex put the tailgate back on but it works now. if your still under 36k miles make them fix it

Your original post sounds just like my son's 2010 Silverado tailgate where he had this happen...handle would move...it was unlocked...but wouldn't open.

There are plastic keepers that hold the cable in the latch assembly on either side. One of the plastic keepers was broken...went to AutoZone...purchased plastic keeper kit for $5....fixed in 5 minutes. (his truck was out of warranty)

He found a writeup somewhere on one of the forums that showed exactly what to do. I think the 2014 still uses the plastic keepers, just a different type.

 

Perhaps the extra strain on the cable from the thickness of the bed liner caused the plastic to break? Just a thought.

One of the keepers in my 99 cracked as well. I took the assembly loose and used a tie wrap. Been working good for about 4 years now.

Same here, used a flat head screwdriver when mine was giving me problems and it opened right after.

I have the Undercover Flex on
