Hey, I am considering taking a vacation to WI this summer. Wife and daughter (5 yr old)is my crew.  I  will be pulling my trailer and staying in campgrounds. I want to go up to the tip of the state (to moon Canada )and  I want to avoid crowds. would be great. State parks, lake front campgrounds. How crowded is it in the northern part of the state. Crime rate, places to avoid, places that we must see.  We are not big into tourist trap junk, natural unspoiled land is what we seek.  What is the climate like in the June July time frame. What type of bugs will we be fighting. Any info about your sate would be great.  Thanks.

Buy a cheese hat and a brett farve jersey and you will be fine  :uhoh:

Bugs: Mosquitos i am sure.  Bug repellant would be a good idea

I live in milwaukee, but I'm heading up to the dells in a few hours which is about dead center in the state, just north of madison.

Plenty of campgrounds there and lots to see and do.  Plus there are a lot of natural oddities that you don't see anywhere else in the state.

the dells is fun.  Lots of go cart racing and water parks

Definitly check it out!!!

Definitly check it out!!!

it was great this weekend, practically empty :D

But, I'd say if you're going this summer definetly do a weekday because the crowds are huge on the weekends during the summer.

[cheeseheadlingomodeon]Ya hey der!  Ya coming up her an so hey?!  Ya, you betta put packer bumper stickers all over da truck so you fit right in up her ya now!  Stay away from Door County.  All them F.I.P.'s inhabit that gosh dern peninsula in the spring and summer months ya.  You need to come up here to the middle north part of da state where we can sit out on the boat walleye fishing and drinking our P.B.R.'s and/or Old Milwaukee's.  Den I can sit here and bore you with tales of the great days of football and all aboot Vince Lombardi Ya hey der!  Oh Da pack!!!  Oh gosh dernit.  Farve almost retired on us, we'd have been done fer shure den!  Yaaaa.[/cheeseheadlingomodeoff]

Be sure to wear your "anti-cheese" splatter guard and make sure to protect your daughter.  Stupidity is contagious up there.  Generally crossing the behind the cheddar curtain (the Illinois/Wisconsin border) you will note the collective IQ drops around 50 points (sorry John).

Sincerely,

CMNT, a former misplaced Chicago resident having been subjected to living in Green Bay, Wisconsin (stupidity central) for a few years.

I just have to make fun of my northern neighbors whenever possible.

After all, you call us F.I.P.'s  You know, we who support that state's tourist industry.

Dang Lane, don't hold back, how do you really feel about Wisconsin?

you will note the collective IQ drops around 50 points (sorry John).

No wonder people think that I am smart, by way of comparison I seem smart.

Good thing I live in the S-E corner and I'm not fully affected by the cheddar curtain.

Sorry, after being a displaced Chicagoan (and Bear fan) in a see of puke gold and sh*t green and packer this and packer that it tends to drive one very close to suicidal tendencies.

That was just the visual impact, trying to hold an intelligent conversation with one of the locals was another!  :smash:  They seemed to be hung up on the fact that I was a Bear fan therefore anything I said was used against me in a court of their law.

Maybe I was spared because I'm not a football fan :smash:

Wisconsin's State Parks are among the best in the country.  Most have at least electric hookups.  The one's we've been to also have dump stations at the exit that you can use for free if you camp there.  Go to Wisconsin State Parks for information.

Wyalusing State Park is on the bluffs of the Mississippi River.  It's absolutely beautiful.  Further north, in Chippewa Falls, is Lake Wissota State Park.  Then there's Interstate State Park with the St. Croix River nearby.   If you're looking to "moon" Michigan, then you need to head over to Eagle River.  Eagle River is definitely in God's Country.  We take our trailer up there twice a year toa  private campground with friends who have been going there all their lives.

You can also follow the Mississippi River and view some of the locks.  That's always interesting, too.

The Dells are great, and there's Mirror Lake State Park there.  Keep in mind, the Dells are VERY commercial.  Water parks are everywhere.  A day at Noah's Ark is somewhere around $30 per person.  Don't let that scare you, though.  The water slides are awesome.  The "strip" you walk down has every type of junk store you can imagine.  Then there's wax museums, Ripley's Believe it or Not, etc.  If you don't want commercial, stay away from the Dells.

It goes without saying that there's Green Bay and Lambeau Field.  You can find information on that at the official  Packers.

As for bugs, yup, we've got 'em all!  Mosquitoes can be BAD.  Be sure to bring lots of bug spray!

Most of all, enjoy your trip!  :D
