Opinion on best tires?

The good thing with the 2014s is they are so quiet and smooth to begin with you don't really notice the tires are that bad.

 

I had a 2004 Silverado with oem 20s and goodyears, and you could notice the tires, I switched to a Michelin MS2 and it was a world of difference.

 

So like I said, maybe with a new truck the tires wouldn't be as noticable.

 

But to answer your question between the two stock options I'm not sure either is noticeably better than the other, in the end the ATS will prevail.

Through college I worked in a tire shop (5 years) and saw a lot of different tires come through in my time there. For anyone looking for a quiet and smooth tire I always recommend a Michelin. MS2s and AT2s awesome tires and come with a 70,000 mile warranty.

 

Buy a set and sell the OEMs on craigslist. There are so many 275/55r20 equiped vehicles on the road I am sure you could sell them in a heart beat.

In my opinion I would go with the AT tires. In all honesty they are BARELY bale to be called an AT tire. In my opinion they are more of an aggressive all-season tire.

 

I also HATE Goodyear tires. They wear like garbage and they have below average traction. Get a set of Michelins or Bridgestones and be done with it...

The AT2s are a little more aggresive. I imagine they are a little better traction in the mud and snow where as the MS2s are less aggresive giving a little better/quiter ride.

 

Unfortunately in a 275/55r20 the AT2s aren't offered, just the MS2s so thats what I got. You can get a set installed for around 1,200 I suppose

I seriously can't believe that the GM pickups come with LS2's from the factory on a 4wd equipped vehicle. Those tires are a disaster for winter driving. Horrible traction on ice and poor tread for clearing snow. At least the SUV's get Bridgestone Alenza's which are a significant step up on slippery driving.

 

I trashed my LS2's and have been running Bridgestone Revo 2 A/T's for the past few years and I absolutely love them.

My 22's came with Bridgestone Dualer A/T's and IMHO it rides better than the 20's with the Goodyear LS2's I test drove before I ordered my truck...

I had the all terrain package, which came with 265/65/18 Goodyear wrangler at tires but decided to upgrade even further to the bf Goodrich all terrain t/a simply for the fact of security on the highway in winter weather and off-road ability. They are a 10ply all terrain tire with an aggressive lug but my experience with them has been great, aside from the road noise these tires lasted nearly 75k KM and were used about 70/30 street/offroad. It is one of the few light truck tires rated for winter. I believe I'm going to sell the Goodyear(stock a/t) tires seeing as GMC would not credit a swap/replacement. Maybe you can talk yourself into a dealer credit towards another tire.

No mention of the Continental LX20's that came on my LT with the Chrome package (20"). So far they seem to perform well but coming from sports cars and sport SUV's I don't have a very good point of reference.

Yes Michelins!

 

I have had both the LTX AT2 and LTX MS2 on my 09 SLT 4x4 truck. The ATs were quiet, smooth and no noise. Really a good riding tire. They did not have the MS2 in my 275 65 18 size in 09 when I bought my SLT. The problem I found with the ATs was they picked up all kinds of rocks and east to mud up ( rocks and mud flew). Now that was 09 and I am sure Michelin has made some slight changes in tread since then.

 

As soon as the LTX MS2s were available in 275 65 18, discount tire worked with me and changed out the tires to MS2 (which I have always run on my GMC suburban). Same smooth, quiet and easy to balance ride. AND I think better in light off road. They are not rock throwers and do not mud up as bad as the AT2s. Or if they do they clean up quicker. And I see no traction loss with the MS2s

 

So if light off road is your game, (IE not deep New England mud or rock climbing) the Michelins MS2s are the best. I have run nothing but Michelins on trks and cars for years and never been unhappy with the tires. My Sub MS tires make 100,000 miles easy. I do not see the MS2s on my 09 making that. Maybe, 70,000-90,000. But mine are trued and high speed balanced on the truck, which helps the tire life.

 

The dealer most likely will not work with the swap unless they build it into the price. I drove right to discount and they gave me a good price for my take offs for a new set of Michelins. Plus they are better at tire mounting (think wheel damage) and better at balancing the tire.

 

My friend finally replaced his 20 inch Goodyear's on his SLT with LTX MS2s. He was amazed how much better ride and wet handling was.

 

Edit: forgot to add that I would try the LT MS2 next over the P MS2. I have LT MS on my sub and it seems to have less sidewall flex. May be the difference in trucks?? I do not think they make an LT in the 20s size for your truck. Enjoy the new ride!

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.

      I can't believe that could possibly be the case. It should be 36mo/100k miles from installation. Then again, it also seems like since a dealership installed it, it'd all be in the system and you wouldn't need to worry about registering, either. Shows you what I know. 😄 Hope this one outlives the warranty!

      I haven't seen inventory recovery from COVID.    In the few random times I 'build my own' truck or SUV, no one has the exact one I want.   GM has been working to lower incentives too for a long time.    A $500 incentive isn't getting me off the couch to go truck shopping.
