Very true!

That would be much appreciated. Hope you like it.

Had this installed today. Thought I'd post some clips -- sorry about the crappy video quality.

Definitely some drone, not unbearable. Only noticeable at ~ 1500 RPMs, and definitely more noticeable at faster speeds. I love the sound though! :driving:

Isn't the super 10 series outlaw just short of straight piping it? I say that just because it's such a short muffler that it can't do too much to reduce the sound.

Haven't heard straight pipes on this truck but I'd imagine they are a lot louder. This is pretty aggressive sounding compared to the other Flowmasters on this truck but compared to straight pipes I'd guess it's fairly mild. I can definitely easily carry on a conversation in the cab with the windows up.

Very nice! I am considering setting up a non traditional dual exhaust system. Like the mild to wild systems on the corvettes.

I will likely set up an X pipe where the headers connect, then have one exit lead to an electric cut out that will either be a straight pipe system that will reconnect to the current exhaust exits or I was considering putting in a Flowmaster outlaw series that would also reconnect to the current exits.

I like my current magnaflow but sometimes, having the exhaust just a bit louder than stock just isn't enough while other times it's perfect! So I'm hoping I can get the best of both worlds with the set up I wanna do.

I just cannot decide for the life of me which one to get Flow master, Borla, Corsa, Or Magna flow. I dont want it over powering inside the cabin especially on the highway as I have family lol. But still want it mean when I get on it. No drone inside is key.

So far the sound clips from the CORSA, Flowmaster 40 series and GM borla seem to sound pretty good. I'm just worried about the interior 4cy drone i hear some of you mention that I have never heard.

Also i am sure it has been mentioned but is it possible to remove the stock exhaust without cutting it? If so how easy is it for someone with basic knowledge

I would say get one of the GM Borla kits w/the valve, then you won't have to worry about whether or not you will get the V4 drone, helicopter sound, or whatever they are calling it now-a-days.

Yes the stock exhaust can be removed without cutting it....

I installed the GMPP Borla exhaust with the flapper and bypass pipe. Good sound when you get on it. Quiet in the cabin at cruising speeds and no V4 drone, no choppers following me :)

I'm considering the GM Borla system for my 2014 Z71 with the 5.3. I told myself when I ordered the truck that this time I was going to stay with the "Quiet Tones" and NOT add a performance exhaust. Well it looks like that plan may be out the window, as I'm really digging the GM Borla system.

Anyway, my question is, I ordered that ridiculosly overpriced Chrome Exhaust tip from GM when I ordered the truck...........I ordered the thing partly just to deter me from going with a cat back system, by having already invested in that overpriced OEM tip, it would make me think twice before dropping any money on an exhaust system. Again my plan doesn't seem to be working, Im sort of longing for that rumble I had with my last one.

Since the tips do not come with the GM Borla system, does anyone know if the OEM Polished Exhaust tip I already have, will fit the Borla outlet pipes? Not a real big deal, but if it will, I may be able to just buy one other OEM tip, rather than having to ante up for 2 Borla tips.

I appreciate any response

No the GM tip will not work on the GMPP Borla

Stock tail pipe diameter 2.75"

Borla exhaust exhaust pipes are dual outlet 2.25"

Thanks for the reply Daniel......I was hoping to maybe save a few bucks if I do end up going the GM Borla route.........anyway, buying a second OEM tip would probably have been almost as much as the two Borla's I would need.

OK......looks like I'm slowly giving in and will probably be going with the GM Borla System. Pretty pricey, compared to Flowmaster and Magnaflow, but from what I have read here, the Borla system sounds great, with low cabin noise and virtually none of that dreaded "Drone" you usually end up with in some form or another.

I had a Magnaflow system on my last truck (07 LT 4x4 Ext Cab 5.3). This truck also had the cylinder deactivation deal, and you could definetely hear the exhaust tone change when it dropped into V4 mode, but the sound to me wasn't really offensive, I wouldn't call it a drone, it just made it noticeable when the engine switched modes. Anyway, on the 2014's, with a performance exhaust system, is this V4 "drone" more of an issue than it was with the 2007 thru 2013 models?

Finally, it looks like I will have 2 choices with the GM Borla system.......twin pipes out the back, or dual pipes out the passenger side where the factory exhaust is now. I've always liked, and gone for the twin pipes out the back before, but this time, I'm sort of leaning towards the dual side exit...........what's your preference, and why???? Do you think either exit location would make any difference to the sound levels inside the cab?

Well I gave in.........went over to my dealer this morning and ended up ordering the GM Borla package for my truck. He had a new truck on the lot, to which they had installed the Borla package, so I was able to get an real life preview of the system.

Upon cold startup, there is a really nice "Bark" from the pipes, which quickley softens. Even when reving the engine while in "park" there is a nice expected V8 growl from the pipes, but really nothing you wouldn't class as "music"

We went for a short ride, and the cabin noise was non-existent until under acceleration, and even then, the sound to me was exactly what a V8 should sound like. The manufacturers are so obsessed with having a "Quiet" vehicle, the have completely forgot about the folks who prefer to hear their V8 in action.

Anyway, I was very impressed, and have to say this is the ticket for anyone that is looking for something just a bit louder than stock, with a nice bite under acceleration, and a quiet cabin. The sound may be a little subdued for some that are looking for more of an aggressive tone, but for "Old Fellers" like me, it fills the bill perfectly. A little more "Pricey" than having a muffler shop build you a system, but to me, finally getting the sound I've been chasing in my last two trucks, it's well worth it.

I decided to go with the twin pipe side exit, which to me seems just a little more of a modern look. I also didn't like the fact that the Borla exhaust pipe itself, being only 2.25", looks kinda' funny when it upsizes to the 4" split rear tips. Not a real big deal but my last 2 Silverados had the split twin pipes out the back, so it's time for a change.

They will be ordering the kit today, so hopefully I'll have it installed before the end of the week. Thanks for everyones input, this thread was very helpful in making my decision

    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
    • I have 2 choices.
    • Do you have access to BP fuels? Some stations have Silver 91 E-0 priced the same as their 93 E-10.  There is a local Marathon with 90 alky free for $6 a gallon but I go down the road to BP for $5-ish. They also have a 100 E-0 but that stuff is $10 a pop.
