So i installed the cat back mbrp single pipe 3" system and i have to say it is money well spent the sound is awesome and the drone is very minimal.

That is a weird muffler on the MBRP isn't it? There is no flow direction indicated and when you look through it, you can see the baffles reverse directions, so I hope flow direction doesn't matter, cause I just put mine on, right or wrong, it's on lol

Yep same here no flow direction its just like a glass pack or cherry bomb with more insulation in it and it sounds bad ass!

I'm a sucker for wanting mandrel bends and magnaflow mufflers. Probably should've bought the mbrp kit and just used the magnaflow muffler. Maybe someday I will. For right I've got the magnaflow 12259, I believe. 18" 5x8 oval and 3" tail pipe. Stock flex pipe up to the muffler.

The openings in the little nubbies inside the muffler should be facing the rear of the truck. If you look through it in the direction of flow you should see the bumps but no openings. According to MBRP having it on backwards can cause more cabin noise but otherwise will work.

I just found that info by googling it, since I'm looking at that same exhaust.

They look the same from either direction when looking through it. Or at least that's what I thought. Might turn it around to see if there's any difference while it's still new enough to come back apart easily

It was the same in mine basically open triangle shaped stamped cuts that stuck out.

Has anyone on here installed true duals?

True dual system going on mine next week with 3rd cat delete. Just to clarify with everyone that has removed the third cat, there is no O2 sensor after this cat so no engine codes will be thrown ?

Can anyone shed some light on this ? Thanks!

Yeah I pulled it off today just to reassure myself, it is identical either direction... the nubbies reverse half way through the muffler. Turned it around anyways and no change

Interesting. Good to know

I can see this thread has been rolling for a while... I purchased a 2015 1500 Crew Cab 5 months ago and couldn't wait to put some exhaust on it, but wasn't sure what to get. I read posts here about concerns when eliminating the resonator and drone when going aftermarket. I love FlowMasters on a muscle car but didn't want the drone in the truck. I researched by watching countless youtube videos by truck owners, Borla and FM marketing Kinney's Mufflers in Texas, and others. I have a great local muffler shop at the traffic circle in downtown Orange, CA - Plaza Mufflers that I knew I was going to, as they could handle custom work well if I didn't go with a catback system.

The guy there, Carl, who is a perfectionist, allowed me to try 3 different (single in dual out) mufflers to here them for myself. A nice offer.

I tried a 40 series FM, too loud but sounded pretty good.

I tried an 18" no name turbo muffler, too quiet.

I tried an 18" MagnaFlow, just right for my daily driver. Mellow when cruising but becomes a fairly angry small block when stood on. I had the MF put on the one week old truck with no regrets.

Yes, the truck goes into "helicopter mode" when it drops to V4, and I'll be honest, it took a little getting used to, but totally fine. I am used to i and don't plan to tune it out. It also seems to have changed the way the tranny downshifts, especially in trailer mode; because it is breathing so much better, the downshifts are very fluid and pronounced.

After 11,000 miles it has broken in for sure, and I wouldn't change a thing. I'm not sure how it affected mileage as the motor wasn't even broken in when installed, but it certainly didn't get any worse. I average 18-19 MPG on my commute which is half stop-and go, not bad.

I wanted the tips to barely show, to be subtle.

I just noticed that the muffler shop I used for my duals actually went back with smaller diameter exhaust pipes. I have a 2015 Silverado 5.3l, shouldn't I get at least the same size or larger? It sounds great, but every once in a while I have what seems do be some drag when taking off.

Stock 5.3 is 2.75 if I remember right. If it really is true duals you're probably fine depending on what new size is. Dual smaller pipes flow better than a single larger one. Again size depending but guessing they used 2.5.
