I dont know how you can beat TSP headers for the money. My GM Borla is perfect for now, but when warranty is up gonna be real hard to not be putting those in the next day with a tune.

Shorties seem like a waste of money to me unless you have a really tight space like on a swap car, or real low clearance on a slammed car.

You're not lying 632$ for headers and a Y-pipe hard to beat.

This is the 5.3 with Flowmaster 10, from inside the truck, rear sliding window open, all other windows closed. Moderate acceleration onto highway.

Yeah i've been reading about short headers all days and it's about equal to just adding a MIT, for a lot more money. Been watching Matt Earle's video with the XR1 40085/Kooks longtube, i love the WOT sound and warm start is okay. Cold start sounds loud as hell. The rest of it i love.

Thanks for watching. The cold start on anything with headers is pretty loud, but you can actually fix some of that with a tune and keep the RPMs down some at the lower temps. I am actually running the 40943 oval XR-1 now and should have videos soon.

I can say, my cold start is not super loud. The resonator helps a lot.

That truck looks familiar.

Ha i figured it would be someone's on this board.

I was thinking you had the right idea with the oval muffler and then adding headers, so it didn't become overly loud like the round XR1s. I'm listening on good speakers now to see what i think i like.

Did you notice any MPG gain with the exhaust/headers/MIT/tune?

I noticed where you said you probably wouldn't go headers again, was the Dyno reading posted with a tune/headers/MIT/exhaust?

Sorry my video quality sucks.

I honestly didn't leave the truck stock long enough to get a decent baseline.

I would say I am on par with other leveled trucks running 33" AT 10ply tires.

I get 16 mixed mpg, 20 highway with premium.

I get 13 mixed mpg, 15 highway with E85.

Here are gains from headers. Both were with done exhaust/MIT/tune, only addition was headers.

Damn those aren't bad number by any means. Your premium numbers are around what i was getting stock. Combined 16 overall and 18ish on the highway give or take. With gas Now it's 13ish in town with pure gas, and this is trying to be conservative :(, I'll find out for sure next weekend what it's doing on the highway as i have to travel 330 miles to Finger, TN round trip. Willing to bet it's pretty bad.

I keep watching header videos and can't help but want them at the end of the day, especially if i go a similar route to your setup and it gives me the best of both worlds. I'd love to see a hard acceleration video if you could get one like Matt did.

5RWill, my truck has AR Headers with cats running the OE exhaust. It is quiet when cruising and has a nice growl when starting and accelerating. The headers took it from electric motor quiet to sounding like a sport truck. I tried both a Magnaflow and Corsa exhaust systems with headers and went back to the OE exhaust. I did have the flapper valve removed due to the substantial exhaust restriction it causes, even when open. With headers, the Magnaflow volume was too high for my taste and didn't care for the tone. The Corsa was just plain too damn loud. It was loud with manifolds and OE cats, but with headers the volume was about three times higher. I knew from the first start up that it was not going to work. Yes, those were both expensive lessons. My truck also has an MIT, ported throttle body and BlackBear tune. I really enjoy how it sounds. For me, it is a great combination. I know there is some HP loss with OE exhaust. At WOT (which my truck rarely sees) it has 5 lbs of backpressure which should equate to about 6 ~ 10 HP. Don't like it, but I can deal with it to have the sound both my wife and I like. Correction, she can live with it, I like it.

Did I notice any MPG gain? No, don't think so. On a nice road trip with the cruise set at 75 mph, I can get as high as 19.8 mpg. Driving 10 miles to work with some city driving it usually gets 15 ~ 17 mpg. I don't drive like an old lady, but not like a teenager either. Just moderate/aggressive.

I'll see what I can do for an acceleration video. I can do in cab no problem, but that doesn't do it justice. I'll have to find some empty road where I can put my cell down to record and hope that no one steals it :P.

This is well said.

I bet you would be happy with my setup. It has the best of both worlds as well, but just not as "tiny" as you get with the stock muffler.

If you want to explore or throw $100 more into your setup, cut out that OEM muffler and throw the Borla I have on in there and leave the resonator in place.

I think i'm going to do TSP headers and a similar muffler to Ryan. I'm glad i'm not the only one who thinks Corsa is just overbearingly loud. I do like the tone but i couldn't drive with that thing all day.

So with the TSP headers and a catted Y-pipe i would just need a muffler and tip and could have someone put it all on and go? Or do i need to get a resonator as well? I do want split rear but i could wait for that.

Also are there any downsides to headers? Googling i saw mention of leaks and bolts backing off due to harmonics introduced in the engine bay.
