I had to bend mine, you can install them without bending them but they are very close to the seam and are probably the reason most people get noise and think their shocks are bottoming out. Once I installed mine I used my phone to take a picture and noticed I only had about 1/16" clearance so I bent them to make sure I wouldnt have any issues. I used channel locks to get the bend started then used My jack handle and hammer to finish the bend. Could have been a lot easier had I known ahead of time I would have to bend it.

You could set shackles to 1" position and take 1" worth of block out from under axle. This would require no bending of seam

Hmm !! Thanks for the advice. When I do my 14 SLE I am also doing my brother's 13 SLE. I imagine the same thing with the seam will be there. I like the idea of going in the 1" hole and removing the block if there are no issues that way too. Will have to look at it and see. Thanks very much for your time and experience.

I am buying a 2014 silverado 2wd texas edition next week.I did the rear lowering shackle on my 2010 and loved the look. I want to do the same for my new one. I know where to get the shackle but here do you buy the 1/2 in lowering block? Also where did you get the color matched painted bow tie? Your truck looks nice!

Here is mine.

I got the lowering blocks HERE. I bought a billet aluminum bowtie for the front off the internet and had it powder coated locally. "Tractor Red" was the color they used at the shop and it's an almost perfect match. The reason I did that is that the painted ones chip too easy. I had one on my '07 that only had one small chip on it in 6 years!! I can't even imagine what a painted one would have looked like 6 years down the road. The one on the tailgate was painted by a Chevy dealer here in town that puts them on most of the high-end trucks they sell and then add the cost to the price of the truck. I've had them do them for my other trucks in the past.

Post some pics when you get 'er done.

Good luck,

Tom

Thanks, I just can't wait to get the truck. I'm planning on doing about the same things that you have done to yours. My 2010 had 2in rear shackles and de badge with color bow ties and pained front grill. This time I'm going to leave the chrome grill. I'm planning on keeping my 22s but I don't know if the 2010 tire sensors will work in my 2014?

Here is a pic of my 2010.

Looks good!! I noticed the billet insert in lower half of the front bumper on your 2010. I had one on my 2007 and have NEVER seen another one until now!! I guess nobody around here liked them or knew about them. I remember I took my tow hooks off so I wouldn't have to hack around on the insert. I never used them anyway and didn't even order them on my 2014. Looks a lot cleaner without the ugly-ass hooks sticking out, in my opinion of course :) . That's why we have roll-back tow trucks.

My 2WD Z71 was recently lowered about 2" in the rear for leveling (although it might not look like it) using McGaughy's 2" drop shackles only. I'll probably paint the rear inner fender wells flat black to further de-emphasize the wheel well openings. I would like to lower it more but just don't need the associated issues and headaches. Also added Corsa "Sport" duals (first class 304 SS hardware and yummy sound) and an UnderCover Flex bed cover atop a Line-X spray bedliner. Lightweight Centerline 18X8 wheels are ordered with Nitto 421Q tires. Having fun, fun, fun. Cheers! :)

So I've skimmed through this thread and from what I gather, some of y'all are having issues with vibration with drop shackles? Would I be ok if I just pull the rear block and no shackle? I drive ALOT and I don't need vibrations on a brand new 54k truck.

You shouldn't have any issues at all by just removing the block. I really doubt you'd have any with just shackles either.

I used the Belltech drop shackles and I removed the blocks, for a total drop of 3", and I have no problems. Smooth as butta'!

    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
