My First Dent! Anyone else?

Back to the original post: I dropped a fairly small impact socket on my rocker panel just inside the doors and it got dinged. Yes, metal on these trucks is pretty thin.

Drunk girl backed into my truck at 3 AM, 2 days after I bought my truck. Her car alarm was going off, which woke us up. I watched it happen. She drove forward past my truck, then backed right into it. 3rd truck in a row hit by a woman.

 

I jumped in my truck and chased her down in my pajamas, while on the phone with 911. They caught her. DUI, impounded car, lost her license... Charged with drunk driving, hit and run, and fleeing the scene.... OWNED.

 

Its a barely noticeable dent on my front bumper. They didn't even have prices for the parts yet, but figured it was around 1200 in damage. New bumper and paint basically. Taking it in for repairs on Monday, if I can get away from work.

 

On the topic of guns.. I wish we could carry loaded guns up here in Canada. Crime rate is one of the highest per capita in the city I live in. At least if you could shoot people that came in the house unauthorized. Strange things have been happening lately. Like someone is scoping our house for a break in, ringing the door bell in the middle of the night, then bolting away in a truck parked in the alley when the dogs started going.. Makes me uneasy since I'm always away working and my girl is home alone. I actually think they're relatives of the girl that hit my truck.

 

I've got a baseball bat, but I don't want my girlfriend trying to use that to defend herself. Shes small and would get overpowered easy. Called the cops and they just shrugged it off.. Typical. Too busy busting people for joints.

I just got a new Harley, so space is tight in our garage. Truck, wife's car and the bike. I opened the door into the wife's car side mirror. Tiny-tiny dent in the door. Can't even see it unless the light is right. Still bugs me though.

The important part is the Harley did not get dented

You can have guns, you just cant shoot at unauthorized guests. It would be murder. From what I understand, that is ok to do in the States. ...Defending your home. Discharging a weapon in the city here is very very bad.

 

For handguns, you need a restricted licence, approved by the govt. And you can only take it to and from the shooting range, which you have a membership at. You also have to notify the police every time you do transport it.

 

No automatic weapons. Limited rounds in a magazine. A semi auto assault rifle is good as you get here.. With a plug in the mag, limiting its capacity. Even those are restricted..

Sorry to hear about that I guess Canada would not be my first choice of destination for fleeing the states. I would have to blast a criminal if they broke into my crib and threatened me no matter what the politicians said. You can buy a outdoor motion sensing camera/light combo at the northern tool store for under 100 dollars "on sale' it uses a sd card and you can get a up close and personal look at your door bell ringer if you wanted to. Of course be prepared as you might just see some other stuff that your not supposed to like the MILKMAN coming in and out of your crib. LOL.

I always thought it was insane for civilians to carry loaded handguns around.. It is in some cases. There are some weird people out there, and lots of unnecessary shootings. Half the time cops don't do anything until it is too late though.

I bought a brand new 13 Equinox LTZ a few months ago. I put 10k in cash down on it. Drove off the lot with 15 miles on it. Two days later with 59 miles on it a girl text messaging in a brand new 4Runner goes through a stop sign and tbones me. Her ins was Mercury. They fix it but it's still not right. After a month of trying I take my losses and trade it in loosing 9k in cash (6k if you include the money I made Mercury pay me for diminished value.). I put 20k in cash on my 14 Silverado LTZ on Halloween night. Two weeks and 1,000 miles in I park my truck on the street at my office. 5 minutes later a 90 year old woman blacks out and steers into my truck. Luckily it was a few scrapes on the rear bed, the impact point was into the side step luckily, then a dent on the bottom of the drivers side fender where it meets the door. Besides the step the damage was hardly noticeable but still, two brand new cars in a row.. Oh and the old lady had Mercury ins too. Once again I went after them for diminished value this time getting 2k after repairs.

 

Then last weekend I pull up to a four way stop behind another car. A third car pulls up on our opposite direction and a fourth to our right. Now the woman ahead of me should be going but we all sit there. Then the person opposite of us and the car to the right go at the same time. The car to the right hits the rear of the SUV and it starts sliding around counter clockwise heading towards us and my heart just sank. It comes all the way around and sweeps the car in front of me right out just missing me. I throw it in reverse and shoot back, being the only car there to make it out untouched.. I've never hit anyone or caused any accidents yet I've had people hit me multiple times..

I've never caused one either. I've been hit 3 times in three different vehicles though. Sounds like you have worse luck than I do.

Mine took place in my work parking lot. There are a total of three cars on a 40 car parking lot but my secretary's mother managed to find the back driver's corner of my truck. The left light and quarter panel needed replaced, as did the bumper. The truck was 10 days old. The only "good" to come out of it is that I ended up with the step bumper, as mine was a build that had everything but that due to parts shortage. The repair is actually perfect and her insurance paid for the rental which was a new loaded Ford F-150. Made me really appreciate mine. Prior to that I had a 2500 series Yukon XL that was rear ended with less than 200 miles on it. I had just dropped off a trailer, still had at the hitch in the receiver. It destroyed the car that hit me, no damage at all to the Yukon. The hitch went past the push bar on the car that hit me, and the push par came within a hair of touching the Yukon. The car was mangled (hood folded up 12+ inches, etc., it was the classic Chevrolet Caprice used by local police departments, hence the push bar. First time I'd ever been hit by a cop... Yes he was cited.

Not going to start an argument, but no shootings have ever occurred from someone permitted to concealed carry...nothing wrong with a law abiding citizen carrying a gun.... It's not the guns it's the people.

That is crazy... Like I always say, it's the other people on the road that are dangerous... I have seen countless accidents that could be easily avoided if the driver was paying attention or not speeding

What about the Trevon Martin one? That guy was allowed to carry wasn't he? I do agree though. The good far outweigh the bad. Most of them are just nutjobs that got hold of a gun. It doesn't change my opinion. There are bad people out there. The cops won't always protect you.

Defensive driving is key. Sometimes even that can't save you though. I'm trying to teach my girlfriend to pay attention to what other vehicles are doing, anticipate being cut off etc. It should be taught in driver's ed.

Tell me about it. I have seen so many horrible drivers out there I have to stop and ask myself who is letting these people drive? I mean if you are such a bad driver that you are causing multiple accidents your license should be revoked. We wonder why insurance is so expensive. Think of all the accidents they have to pay for that could have been avoided.
