Space behind back seat/ can it fold down?

Hmm, noted. I'm interested into looking into this more, a little nervous about it being permanent though.

So was I: That is why I did the smaller passenger side first. No way it is going to come loose in an accident unless the seat bottom flips all the way up. Do one side and check it out.

So will the seat stay in place if the bottoms are folded up?

If you mod the seat backs to fold down when you flip up the seat bottoms, no they will fold down... They may not fall down and made need some help to fold forward but they shouldn't fall down, at least mine don't. Mine also catch on the outer edge of the plastic that covers the hinged area of the seat so you will hear a little noise from that area if you do the mod.

did the mod on a 2017 wt/lt rear bench. cut 2.5" gave them a small tweek out after cut. filled clean. lock in smooth. pull both base tabs lift bout 2 inches to unlock backrest, it now can lay back down flat on seat base. lift up and re lift base 2in. hold back against wall and release base both lock in place. pull tabs again lift base fully up, it locks up and back rest falls forward unlocked against  base but stays up... great mod.. totally recommend it..

I hear a little squeak now. I also found the middle hanger is missing the rubber piece. The other 2 hangers have a rubber on them. I now am trying to order 1.

Take a look at my build thread. Seat mod works perfectly fine and will not unlatch unless the seat is fully in the up position.
