thank you. Do you think they would work with the GM molded mug flaps (fronts ) pro traxx 4 ?????

Honestly i am not sure, I would think that it will fit. I dont have the front mud flaps or the rear ones (the ones in front of tire)

. Thought I'd include a pic.....you know what they say about pics, haha

Ugh. I just took mine off my truck for a different set, looked at the bottom, and was pissed off about the chips in the bottom of the chrome from rocks. Nothing like yours though. I would see if the dealership will cover this, or like someone else said, see if they will cover having them Line-X'd. This would be cheaper, but it looks pretty good IMO, and will be very durable/non-slip.

My '16 Silverado came with the factory 6" chrome side steps. Functionally I think they work well, but washing my truck yesterday I found that huge areas of the chrome on the right side has all peeled off down the entire length of the board. I live in upstate Ny and they do salt the roads but it's only 9 months old.

Have an appt at the dealer Thursday am for them to "look" at them but was wondering if anyone else has run into this from a warranty sense.

Thanks

The reason is because the chrome is applied to mild steel. When the mild steel starts to corrode (from the inside out), the chrome will peel off. As far as I know, only Westin has a step bar that has chrome applied to stainless steel which is the Platinum 26 series.

Right. You have 3 choices:

  • Have dealer replace boards under warranty. In a few years they will probably peel again (and after your warranty is expired).
  • Buy stainless steel ones. Raptor is one brand but there are others out there.
  • Buy Amp steps. They are extruded aluminum and are coating with a "Line-X type" surface so they will not rust or chip. But they have a different look than the factory chrome ones so it depends on what you are looking for.

I want to get a set of step bars but I'm not sure what color or style to get now that I have new wheels. What do y'all think?

At least those chips were on the bottom of your running boards as opposed to the side of your truck. I took my stock running boards off a while back, put on nfabs, and now my truck ends up with paint chips every time I drive on gravel.

Silverado Saver - those boards look really good. Do you like them? Also, I dig the gatorbacks - do they perform well?

Thank you! I just put them on last night, so I haven't had them for even 24 hours yet. So far I love the look and they appear to be pretty heavy duty with a thicker coat of powder coating than some of the other aftermarket ones I have seen.

The Gatorbacks I have had for a while now. Love them! They are the offset ones and offer good coverage. They aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. They have a metal plate that mounts in the wheel well and then the rubber on the bottom is heavy duty.

Quick update: Dealer had new set in stock, did the right thing and replaced them this morning. I didn't think to ask if they will also be covered for at least another 12 months, but they will probably corrode and peel again at which point I will look at another option, either the line-x or something not chrome plated.

Thanks for the tips.
