Here's a picture of the hood installed. Still needs prep, paint and final fitting.

2 Question why did you install before painting and where do you live? that poor fender needs some tender love

I installed the hood first to make sure it fit and to note any adjustments I may need to make. I'm hoping to get the underside of the hood painted next week. And I bought my truck with hail damage brand new for half off. I'm figuring you suspected I lived in a bad area and someone beat my vehicle to death lol.

Na was wondering if anywhere near my area and could take a look at it or recommend a place. The hood is nice, might want to take note of any weight difference if you are an anal type of truck owner like me. Also it is an actual functional 'ram air' style hood as in directs to air box or does that 'hood scoop' just go into engine bay (or is it just fake, hard to tell from pics)

*Half off really is not a bad deal at all if you have body shop connection, the bed itself would be the only if was heavily damaged, It is a rolled piece of steel so cannot really be 'worked' at all just body filled. Some people might beat me over the head for saying it but do not be too afraid to look up paint guys on craigslist etc. Of course vet them but knowing a few myself I know they often do side jobs and you basically get same quality and same dude that would do in a shop for much more. Case of beer and $50 + supplies and I would paint that hood for you good as any body shop since most of the prep is done. I would even detail it after :). I am in Canada though.

I wouldn't worry about the weight, both hoods were very light and were probably within 5lbs. But that's not scientific, just based on feel. I must say the overall fit and quality is top notch for a fiberglass part. And you are correct, the ram air is indeed a functional ram air which directs the air directly over the air intake. On top of that it also has two sections that are functional heat vents.

I'm not too worried about the paint at all. The inside of the bed is in perfect shape and didn't not receive any hail damage. The passenger side of the truck is what took the damage. But I have been working the dents out and covering them with bondo. Once I'm done with this and the underside of the hood is painted she'll be taken in to be covered in line-x top to bottom. If pricing isn't too outrageous on the color match it'll be color matched except for the bed and roof. Those two areas will be Line-X premium so they have a gloss finish.

As far as location goes I am located in Tuscaloosa, AL. Where abouts are you in Alabama?

DO it. I got quote from my guy 1200 for bottom and up around the natural wheel flare. Love to see the pics.

I live in a place where 'westcoast paintjob' is a thing and it means when you have your sides all scuffed up from branches which have overgrown the paths / trails.

For Super Mario fans, here is my homemade Bullet Bill hitch cover. Made it with a Bullet Bill belt buckle and some scrap metal laying around, cost me around $8.

    • And to top it off finally.......................these small GM LS engines are designed to SPIN!!!!!  Why choke them down to just off idle for cruising.  Why/how the "bean counters" have influenced the "engineering department" at GM is beyond me.   They took a solid platform of an engine and turned into a joke in OEM form!!!
    • Atlas,   Then following your logic we can't believe any story that the MSM produces? I mean it's documented they heavily donate to Democrat candidates. Vote Democrat in high percentages. Many MSM talents are married to Democrat politicians, Gov. employees. That goes for on-air and off, personalities and reporters. So they would all be biased and nothing they produce is to be believed in your mind?   Again the article simply was about ways AI can be used for pricing products. Nothing discounted current situations as a factor.    Again keep looking through your left/right lenses. I don't live my life that way.   And as a heads up this thread will be cleaned up again as much of this is off topic and is receiving
    • Yes, and only a couple years before delivery. 🙄
    • So you're saying toss the baby out with the bathwater? @txab posted article was her take on how AI can be used to manipulate pricing as it already does and has been rebuked by the judiciasry in housing. How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it.
