let us know what the dealer says since you're tuned if they try to blame the tune

They will blame it on your tune next.

I have not mentioned anything about the tune to them, and I returned the truck to stock before bringing it in. They have not said anything, and I am not going to tell them either. I knew the risks of tuning a warrantied vehicle when I did it.

Justin at Blackbear does not think this issue was a result of tuning.

Heard from my service writer again. He says there is a bulletin on this issue and they have done everything the bulletin says to do. Although, they never did get it to reproduce the symptoms I was having.

He is going to drive it once more overnight again.

My guess Is this was the same issue I had back in January, when I first made this post, why it is resurfacing is beyond me.

Heard from my service writer again today. He said they diagnosed a bad spark plug. And they were able to move the plug around to different cylinders and the misfire would follow the bad plug.

So I am guessing now they were able to get the truck to throw a code, which is how they found which cylinder had the misfire.

Apparently tho, they dont stock the spark plugs yet. So they had to order one. Hopefully get my truck back tomorrow.

Don't stock spark plugs, that a good one auto zone does I bet. Must be a small dealer.

Nope, Its a big dealer. But he said they are "special" and I'm guessing since its warranty work, they gotta go through their normal channels to get it expensed as warranty work. Who knows.

Apparently it didnt throw a code, but the tech working on it had the truck hooked up to a laptop, and it had some strange data on start up displaying. So he was able to track it down to the cylinder that was misfiring.

Wonder why its not throwing a code. even tho its misfiring.....

Yes that's weird, hope its not a head gasket, don't want to add more worries that was problem with early for 4.6s. Just enough to get a plug once in a while.

So I guess the message to prospective buyers is to request an engine tune-up when negotiating a purchase. Chevy, the longest lasting most dependable oil consuming vibrating rust bucket on the road guaranteed to be recalled...........

I just spit a large sip of coffee all over my screen......but that one-liner was definitely worth the clean up !!!

I would set it on fire and roll it down a hill.

Got the truck back yesterday. They replaced a spark plug on one of the cylinders causing the misfires. I drove the truck about 50 miles and it ran great, and got great gas mileage too. I wonder if the plug that was fouled was causing me to get bad gas mileage because the last few tanks I noticed lower than average numbers. Who knows.

Im happy with the truck again, until this happens next time.....

Glad for you that they've got it fixed now.

Just wondering if a bad sparkplug could cause the catalyst to 'clog' up. Especially if you drive it for a extended period of time like that.

There's probably a billion theories about what a bad spark plug can cause if you drive the vehicle for extended periods.
