Rust Warranty 2007 1500 63K Miles

Anyone had rust on their silverado? I found a rust hole forming in the bed above the wheel well. Is this rust covered or just the underside and cab and such?

 

Anyone have info on this?

Rust perforation warranty is 6 yrs or 100k miles.

and it HAS to be a hole through the metal...... those 800's are rust buckets around here. the Rockers and beds are giving up at an alarming rate.

Dude you must live on the coast. Rust isn't a thing even in the wet parts of Washington. Was it a chip that just got surface rust on it or is it a full on hole?

Old thread I know but I have just noticed a rust whole on the cab towards the bottom and the paint is also bubling from rust above the rear drivers side fender well. All places with no previous damage/bodywork. 2000 silverado. Did you do anything to treat it? I don't know how to stop something from the inside, I was really looking to hold onto this truck for a while but am not so sure now.

These trucks are known for it...... Personally, I'd cut out the rust, paint it with POR 15 and get a set of fender flares. I did this on my 02 ram, pulled the flares 2 years later to look and it was no worse. had I let it go I'm sure the rust would have spread throughout the panel. I just figured it was screwed anyways so If I bought time before ultimately replacing the panel It would be fine. Worked for me as I sold the truck without doing the panel and it still looks good to this day with the flares

That works for the fender but the bottom rear corner of the cab not so much... that's the worse spot actually has a hole formed there.

 

Are the newer models affected by this?

Cab corner/ patch panels are fairly cheap too... Many friends of mine have riveted panels over the rotted out ones and they last for a few years or you can have them welded in professionally around here it's about $700

As far as the newer models I have not seen rocker issues I have seen paint peel behind the rear tire and I have seen one wheel well bubbling but I am almost sure the truck is full of bondo but I haven't got close enough to know for sure

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra Crew Cab that has turned into quite the rust bucket. It's crazy to think that I only have 80000 miles on a truck that was taken care of and both rear fenders are rusting out. One side is completely rusted through, it looks like a 25 year old truck, so depressing. A friend of mine has the same model as me and his is rusting out too. The crew cabs with the 5' 8" bed were designed poorly and traps moisture in the fenders which obviously causes problems. I loved my truck but this will be a costly mistake for me and will make me stay away from GMs in the future.

I agree that it sucks you are having the issue, but there are trucks running around here(central IL) of all brands that seem new enough with bubbling rust.

Have seen a Ford Escape from 2009 with panels almost flapping loose due to rust & that was last summer. In another rust thread today I posted something

via autoblog about Nissan having issues with floor boards rusting out.

 

The point I am trying to make is while it is known that mfg's are continuously switching out to thinner lighter panels, the DOT guys are using harsher salt/chemicals on the roads.

I am not worried about what others are doing. I can tell you there are more vehicles that are not rusting out at 7 or 8 years old than ones that are. I didn't buy a $40,000 truck to have it become worthless in only a few years.

I've got 2 Volvo 940's - a '92 with 235k miles, & a '93 with 133k miles - both spent their entire lives here in the Northeastern USA, driven for over 20 winters! They've both been sitting idle for years in the grass, and there is ZERO body rot on ANY of them!

 

My buddy has a '95 940 with 150k on it and drives it daily - no rust on that one either (except for exhaust).

 

Even the undercarriage isn't that bad! It's amazing. Proof that manufacturers CAN build quality stuff - they just choose not to.
