Tailgate seal

I have added an Access Larado rollup cover and a bed rug. I washed my truck the other day for the first time and noticed that water is getting in near the tailgate, anybody use any tailgate seals to help prevent this. I especially need this in MN, because if water gets in and then it freezes it will freeze my tailgate shut.

you can try it and it will more than likely work but it's never going to be a trunk.

I have used both of these. As Nationalminer said, it is not water tight, but it does reduce water and dust intrusion from around the tail gate.

In addition to the custom seal kits, you can also go to Lowe's/Home Depot and buy black adhesive foam weather stripping. It's usually about 1/4" to 1/2" square, 8-10' long, with one edge peel & stick. If you install it on a clean surface and give it about 12 hrs to fully adhere, it works great.

Agree with Moto^^^ I'm using the cover off my 2012 Silverado and it seems to seal pretty good. Could be better, but I'm not to worried. I don't have a bed rug though.

I have a Roll Bak and only used adhesive strippings where the cover meets the tailgate and a few spots in the front where the canister sits against the truck bed. If your cover has rails that mount down the bed sides, I wouldn't recommend trying to put stripping under them, as it's too thick and would probably cause more problems than correct.

The stuff is pretty cheap, so you might want to just go buy a roll (it's near the doors & windows at Lowe's) and experiment with it. It's not too hard to remove if it's only been stuck on for 10-15 mins.

I will work on the tailgate and see, I was also wondering if anybody has used this? i figured the clear would work well if needed o the sides...

Agree with Moto^^^ I'm using the cover off my 2012 Silverado and it seems to seal pretty good. Could be better, but I'm not to worried. I don't have a bed rug though.

Same here I transferred a Xtang Trifecta Signature (canvas) Trifold from my 2009 truck to my new 2014 GMC Sierra Crew Cab SLT Z71 4x4 and it seems to fit OK except that the factory bed rail caps on the 2014 are pretty thick and hold the cover up and it does not seal across the tailgate and the front of the bed. If it ever warms up a bit here (man so sick of cold weather) I am going to see about maybe adding a piece of gasket of some kind to fill the space. Bedrug is ordered and should be here by Wednesday. Love this 2014 except for a couple of small issues.

Does help, I had some left over so I put what I had left next to the top of the tail light to try and block some more water from getting in through that large gap at the top.

I think this might work , if you mask off carefully and use something to keep it from adhering to the tailgate. It would be nice if there was a product molded to just the right shape to seal this area. Dust always seams to get in this area.

I once put this tail gate seal on my new 2002 Chevy Silverado. I followed the directions and didn't over do it etc. I couldn't open the tailgate after I closed it. I had to really pull on it for some time and the tailgate finally opened. Once it opened, I took everything off and was happy I didn't have any further problems with the tailgate. Has this material changed since?

I have an undercover classic so the gap on the top of the tail gate is covered. However I did add a tailgate seal for dust. It works fine. No water and very small amt of dust on dirt roads. The seal also comes with foam bocks to block the bed openings by wheel wells and seals for small holes here and there. That dust is Not an issue with bed rug as you will not see the dust from those gaps.
