What did you connect the other side of the coil to? Ground? Did you use a resistor to pull it down?

I'll try to explain it the best I can the red wire at your headlight bulb cut it from relay pin87 goes to the bulb pin 85 goes to the bcm Side of the wire you cut 85 to ground and 86 to parking light + I think it's gray at the plug at the head light you will need a test light to make sure yellow will be hot with the parking lights on don't use that 1 because it goes hot when shifted out of park

How it disables the Drl the relay doesn't make a contact till the parking lights come on the Drl signale is stopped at the relay when shifted out of park when the parking lights come on with auto lights or switched out the relay contacts so the bcm can controls them

Hey so I was thinking about this the other day, wouldn't it be possible to cut the wire feeding the drl and tie that to the parking light wire using a diode and capacitor? Then the parking lights would act as drl.

And to totally disable, why wouldn't cutting that wire(g) feeding the drl and adding a resistor to the end of it (to eliminate bulb out on computer) work? It's been a really long time since I've worked on cars so forgive me if this sounds dumb.

Thanks to Baking83 I got it figured out. My biggest hang up was relays in general. Never really got a feel for them. Tomorrow I'm going to try and make a video explaining it. I hate youtubing or googling how do relay work because they start trying to explain the coils etc etc, and I have a simple way of understanding it now. His set up is real easy and flawless, judging by the lack of excitement tho I feel like many others some how don't get it or feel comfortable with it. Maybe I'm wrong:/ but non the less I will try and get a video up tomorrow to help. Again all thanks to Baker tho, it's his fix

Ok here's 2 videos I made describing how baking did it. The first video is me telling why we would like to do the DRL Delete since there always seems to be people who post not understanding. Also say why we can't do it in other proposed ways, along with the last minute or so explaining in general how relays work.

 

Second video gets into how the DRL delete is done with the relays.

 

Sorry for making long videos(about 15 between the two), I just hate watching a video and having questions when it's done. So I try to cover everything best the first time so that it's settled and understood rather than leaving anything for the imagination.

 

And also sorry they aren't great quality, did them sitting in my truck at sonic on a lunch break.

Here is an easy way to do it.

 

Take apart the light switch. In one corner of the housing half, there is a small spring. Take that spring out, it's the return spring for the rotary switch when it's turned counter clock wise to turn off DRL and auto headlight. Put everything back carefully, there are tiny parts everywhere and make sure the switch position retainer is positioned correctly. Pay attention to the tiny pin for the dimmer switch.

 

Now when the switch is rotated CCW, it will not return to auto. The DRL and automatic headlight will stay turned off until the switch is turned clockwise.

Yes but then the auto headlights won't work, and while you may not mind turning them on every time you go to drive at night so do like it(like myself).

 

The solution created by baking lets everything function as normal except DRL. So auto headlights, and all controls by the knob operate as normal also.

 

Your solution is a really good one tho, I might use it once I have HIDs as my front window is tinted. As of now the sensor hasn't been kicking my headlights on during the day like my last truck that had tinted front window.

I did this after work and it took longer to get the fuse panel and trim piece off than it did to do this mod... eazy peazy!

If the marker light is hooked up to power the relay, what happens when the turn signal is used? During the day, the marker lights are off, but when you use the turn signal, that wire is being used to flash the bulb, do the DRLs come back on each time the blinker blinks? Edited by RKeeper1

    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper. 
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money". 
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back. 
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
