BFG 285's

Wow, what a great weekend it is turning out to be. Last night the wife and I celebrated Valentines day at home. She cooked a delicious roast in the crock pot and the dinner was so good. Today I checked my bank account and the tax returns had been deposited yesterday.

Something made me drive to the tire store and take a close look at the  BFG ATs The guys at the tire store knew I couldn't make up my mind what size to buy so they mounted a 285 on the front. It was a tight fit almost touched the lower corner of the front plastic bumper and when turned all the way to the left it rubbed on the plastic wheel well liner near the bottom of the liner. I thought I could trim it but wasn't sure what to do until they mounted a 265 on the rear. It looked way to small I bought the 285s. The guys who mounted them helped me trim some of the plastic (which was really easy) and I was on my way.

BFG 285 75R 16 Mounted and balanced with replacement road hazard coverage came to $850. Check out the picture I'll post below. LIfe is good!

If anybody can tell me why this picture doesn't show up on the page( just a small box with the red x) I'd love to know.

I can see the pic quite well, and might I add...That is one mighty fine looking rig you got there!

If you keep eating like that though, you might have to go to a tire that will handle a higher load capacity....

Nice.  Must be nice to get $$$ back. I only got $105 :D

What did your wife get you?  Did she take any of our suggestions into account?

Did the 285's fit ok on the HD (8 bolt) Forged aluminum rims (16x6.5)?  I know I just got my truck, but the LT 245/75/16's look way too small on the 1500HD.

Those BFG's tires look great on your truck!

The picture doesn't work because Webshots doesn't allow picture hosting.  I had them for a while until they stopped that.

I just copied and pasted the address and checked it out that way.

Nice.  I prefer the OWL on the outsides myself, but you'll love the tires regardless!

$850?  Wow.  They have really went up since I bought mine back in '99.

White WALLS!!!

My truck is nowhere close to being that clean well it was until it decided to snow last night and the city dumped 1 ton of salt on it.

OK I'll try to answer all your questions:

Yes the 285's are mounted on the 6 1/2" x 16" stock aluminum rims. The tire sales person said he would recommend staying with the 265's on that rim but llots of people mount them on the stock rim and it works ok. It's not a safety thing it just makes the tire crown a little in the center. It isn't very noticeable in my opinion but I would agree that the tire might wear a little faster in the center of the tread.

About  the lettering on the inside. I agree that the white lettering looks nice on the outside but I just like the all black look better. After all it is a work truck not a show truck.

In 1972 I bought a Dodge van Tradesman 100. 318 with 3 on the tree. I panneled and carpeted the inside and dressed the outside up with twice pipes and air shocks. The DICK CEPEK desert tires had white lettering which looked nice. I got so tired of useing that white pencil to keep them white. Never again for me. It's black wall out  on all my trucks since then.

Yes Wingnut my German  genes try their best to make me round bellied. I love to eat. Guess it's diet time again.

Ryan, I didn't read the posts to Batgirl about the Valentine gifts for obious reasons but I will tomorrow. She did tell me about The Steak and BJ day. I can't wait till March 20th.

She bought me chocolate covered strawberries which we shared. She bought me some plastic liner dividers for my craftsman tool chest. She pre ordered the new Tomb Raider game. I've been a Laura Croft fan for years. She gave me the Great Escape DVD. The one with Steve McQueen. And the Eagles greatest hits on CD.

Now I'm really wondering what else you guys told her to buy.

Since I have been home he's been out to the driveway about 4 times. We went out for dinner and he is so proud of his truck. It REALLY looks good. I'll have to let him drive me around town toorrow so he can show it off.

I called Tim from work today and he wasn't home so I tried his cell. I could hear music and garage noises in the backround and I knew what he was doing.  He's been talking about new tires for weeks.

Tires/truck look nice...darn nice.  I know I was torn when I got the Dueler Revos.  I had the Fstones with the lettering out and opted for the same with the Revos.  I know Rob down in Louisville has the black out on his Indigo Rado, so I got a look at those before making my decision.  I like them either way I guess.

Your going to love the BFG's.  I have a set on my Sierra and love them.  We have had snow dumped on us here in Northern Virginia and I've had no problems getting around.  Matter of fact, I helped a few folks who were "high centered", one being a Ford,  :D .  I've had no problems in our neighborhood with the 6"+ still on the ground.  Snow plows have only gotten to the main roads, no side streets yet.  These tires do make a difference.   :thumb:

Have you thought about cranking up the torsion bars to get additional clearance? It worked for me on my 01 Z71. If you want more information let me know and I will tell you about it.
