Getting Screwed by GM/Chevrolet/Local Dealership

I recently dropped my Chevrolet 1500 off to a local dealership for a Oil Change/ Tire Rotation, Parking Sensors freaking out (all the way around) and rear end going out. It has now been 2 weeks without my truck and they put me in the base of all base models to drive around without an ETA on parts availability for the rear end. I was told that they can shim the rear end (although I was told it was completely damaged) and I will be able to get buy until they can get the parts (which they have no clue to when). I spoke with GM about 30 min ago for an hour and they have nothing to say except hopefully you will hear from me in 24 hours. Every dealership I have been too has not been helpful at all, GM is not helpful for how concerned they seemed after I bought the truck. I have always been a Chevrolet guy but you can only BS someone so much before they walk away.

I went through a similar issue regarding On Star. It took GM over two months to fix the issue. First excuse was that since the vehicle was a 2014 and we were still in 2013 the parts catalog was not out yet. Slowly but surely they started fixing some items but GM would place blame on OnStar and OnStar on GM as to who was responsible for fixing the problem. At one point the District representative offered to buy back the vehicle if the problem was not fixed. I told them that under no circumstances would that be acceptable. I bought a new vehicle and they would have to replace the vehicle with another new vehicle to match the one I had bought. I was not going to pay new tag/tittle, tax, loose money on depreciation value, mileage and accessories (line-X, bug deflector) just because they could fix an item. Adding, that if I had to go through litigation, they would have to refund my legal expenses and for my lost time.

Suddenly that same day, the issue was resolved.

Well then Kdrr or whatever your name is get off the site and quit bitching. Hopefully the tundra works out for you but we are all tired of hearing you complain. Go to the tundra forum for your problems.. Really annoying when the same guy chimes in on every topic with nothing but sarcasm and not helpful at all.

wish they had offered to buy my truck back. I have to look at it for a couple more months till my 2015 toyota gets here.

You do not have to wait for them to offer you a buy back. You do not want a buy back as you will only get paid the current value of your used vehicle. Do you live in a state that has Lemon laws?

What model Toyota are you waiting on?

Wait, does the OP have a '14 MY or is he talking about an older Chevy? Just curious because that was the first thing that came to mind when I started reading, and now it really seems like it's older if he's already ordered a '15 Tundra.

He has a 2014 according to his other posts.

If you read a little closer it wasn't OP saying he was ordering a Toyota '15

It is well stated

Your Dealer is NOT General Motors
When you mess up at work, who gets the blame? It isn't the CEO. It isn't the shareholders. It's you.

When your dealer messes up—they lie about product, they sell you something unnecessary, their mechanics don't know how to fix things—it isn't the fault of a corporate office in Detroit. It isn't some anonymous executive at the end of an email or a customer service representative on some forum or phone line. It is your idiot local dealer.

Dealers are small businesses. Each dealer is either an independently owned store or a franchise of some company. I'm going to use a prominent dealer here on Camaro5 as an example. Rodgers Chevrolet, home of our beloved BeckyD, is not GM. Their awesome customer service is not Chevrolet. It is a bunch of people coming together and having customer service as a priority. Let me give you another one, Tom Henry. This is another business here on Camaro5 that does a great job taking care of customer. GM is happy to see this, but GM isn't to thank for it. It is the small business owners and employees who take pride in their products and services who deserve your business and gratitude.

Stop rewarding bad dealers with your business. You're going to leave with a car, an oil change, or some other maintenance, and it's not going to cost you much more or less to go to a better dealership. I know that some of you live a long way from a great dealer. Take an extra day off work and travel to buy your car. It's worth it to help that one dealer in your area recognize that bad service doesn't pay. If they keep making money, why should they change their ways? GM doesn't have a compelling say in how they run.

Stop blaming GM for your bad decisions. When you know your local dealer is an idiot, why do you blame GM for your bad decision to go there? You've probably been there before. You've probably had a previous bad experience. Suddenly, it's new and amazing that you have a problem with them and you feel the need to post the following nonsense: "GM customer service has gone downhill" or "GM doesn't care about customers." It isn't GM's fault that you made a bad decision. Go out of your way to find a reliable dealer. It's worth knowing that you aren't going to have chronic problems with the quality of service you receive.

The law prohibits GM from selling cars directly. I'm confident that they would love to directly control the way sales reps behave and the quality of service that every mechanic provides. Unfortunately, that's not possible, and GM has to trust local dealers to act on their behalf. That trust is almost constantly broken by the occasional idiot dealer, and they keep getting business from lazy clients who don't bother to drive a few miles down the road to the next dealer.

I understand that some of you don't have local dealers, or you have to drive really far for that one terrible dealer. Drive even farther for your purchase, and when you do maintenance raise hell every time you go. It sucks being the victim of a monopoly, so you can help by giving them hell every time you make the trip. Demand to speak to the service manager to make sure your car is handled right. Make them pay each and every time for bad service with reviews on sites like Google, Yelp, Yahoo, Better Business Bureau, and everywhere else that you can rate a dealer as doing a terrible job. Complain to GM, but remember that it isn't GM who failed to fix your car. They'll learn to fear you eventually, and then they'll treat you right. It isn't some guy in an office who has to listen to your call. It's an entirely different company. It's your local dealer. Let's keep the blame where it belongs.

This truck is 4 months old, just over 1000 miles,200 of which are from back and forth to the dealer. It has been in 7 times and kept for a total of 18 days. Only 3 of the 12 things have been fixed. I paid just under 50K I would have expected a better truck. I get a new truck every couple of years and in 35 years this is with out a doubt the worst and most unsafe truck I have owned. I nearly crashed when a front caliper seized and spun me around in traffic, and I received a ticket for no brake or tail lights when the lights in the back shorted out. I can't get GM to listen to my problems so this is where I go. Steve I am waiting on a TRD PRO Baja truck.

If it is that bad just go with the lemon law and move on.

Mark, is it the Tundra or the Tacoma? I'm assuming Tundra. Either way, Toyota makes a nice truck....maybe a little outdated compared to the competition, but the reliability and resale value is outstanding. I only lost $7K on my 2007 Tacoma, not bad. Hopefully the Toyota works out for you.
