Rear Seat entertainment...

Ok folks, i bought a used 2012 Silverado crew cab Z71 last month. Love it! My old Ford F150 was on its last leg, and was only an extended cab. Didn't work so well with the 19 month old daughter. So, crew cab makes her happy...and daddy. We have a portable DVD player for long trips, and usually in my wifes car we bungee tie it to the headrest of the passenger seat, where my daughter rides behind her. Was looking for something a little neater than that for my truck, if possible. She has gotten to where she can kick the dvd player if the seat isn't all the way up, then Mickey quits playing and all hell breaks loose from the back seat. I jsut have the standard radio with XM in my truck, no touch screen. Is there a way to add a dvd player in the back of the front seat headrests for less than a small fortune? And of so, do they only use headphones? I don't think she would wear them at this age...

thanks for any and all tips!

Hello,

I have a new oem set of dvd headrests. Wrapped up and still in the original box. I have an ebony and a titanium set. What color is your interior? Here is the GM # so you can check them out. GM 22840272. Let me know if you're interested. Thanks for your time

I put some in my wife's hhr. I got them from the website onfair.com. Were easy to install and look nice. 9 inch screens, and you can use wireless headphones, built in speakers, or they're supposed to broadcast through the radio (never could get that to work though). They have held up to the abuse of 2 kids for 3 years. Not real expensive, and keeps rugrats entertained

I followed the first post in this thread, I wired mine up to the RAP feed pin 8 and the ground pin 1 on the X14 connector slot. I also bought the connector they were talking about in that thread as well.

We sell a bunch of different headrest DVD brands, and there are pros/cons to all of them. Advent and Rosen are vehicle specific and there are a ton of non-vehicle specific headrests out there. The Advent & Rosen are going to be a little over a $1K shipped for two DVD players in specific headrest buns and go down from there depending on how many sources and how long a warranty you want. Anything below $700 is getting into "universal" territory and really isn't going to match the factory interior that great or last very long. The thing you may want to consider with Advent/Rosen is that you can move them into your next vehicle just by buying the new headrest buns for the new rig and transferring the electronics. This may cost $200 or so for the next vehicle, but it saves buying the system all over again.

You can also get overhead DVD players for relatively cheap, but steer clear of anything below $300-350 - quality goes down rapidly under that price range, with most reputable units with three year warranties going for $400-550.

Everything we sell has an FM modulator so you can play the output of the DVD player on the factory radio.

PM me if you have any specific questions about this stuff and I'll be glad to help - I've been an installer for 38 years...

Walt I have a 2014 Silverado GMT900 crew with ebony interior. It has the factory nav but not the overhead DVD. The nav will play a DVD but I have no use for that, as I need rear seat capability. I have the sunroof as well. I am interested in something but not surd what. I'm not really wanting to cut up my headliner. How well does something you have work with the factory nav? Thanks.

We haven't seen anything yet that will take DVD output from the factory navi head unit for display in the rear. Although someone may eventually make a product that allows this function, it will probably take awhile to develop.

For now, the options are going to be headrests or overhead...

Can the GM headrest unit from a 2013 Silverado work in the 2014 Silverado? Are the post the same distance apart and thickness?
