2014 GMC Sierra ( how do I turn on lights under bedrail?)

Looked in the manual and it doesn't show me how to turn them on. Any help would be appreciated.

They could have thought this out a bit better..Why not have the light come on when the tailgate is opened (like the interior dome lamp) then have an override to keep it off in situations where the gate must be left open…or another switch in the rear. I have the bed rug and cover on my 2015 and so far I'm not using the bed light because I don't want to jump back in the truck to switch it off when I close the gate.

Agreed crankyapex. Also to note that my switch doesn't have an indicator saying whether its on or off. I work offshore for a living and I'm gone for weeks at a time. Would suck if I accidentally hit that button, not realizing I turned it on and leave for 3 weeks. I'd come back to a dead truck.

Agreed crankyapex. Also to note that my switch doesn't have an indicator saying whether its on or off. I work offshore for a living and I'm gone for weeks at a time. Would suck if I accidentally hit that button, not realizing I turned it on and leave for 3 weeks. I'd come back to a dead truck.

it automaticly turns off after 10 or 15 min

Weird..Mine has a light on the end of the knob so I know when its turned on..How would you know if it was accidentally left on while driving at night? The rear cab light could be on without realizing it.

yes - my light does not work unless i'm in park (as stated in the manual). i can understand not blinding people behind you on the road - but it would be nice to be able to check the load while driving at night to make sure nothing is shifting around.

also - my switch does have an indicator light showing that's it's on.

I agree this could have been done better, but am glad it is at least there. I had to put one in my 2011 Silverado so that I could see the load with a cover on the bed. It was tied into the tail lights with a manual switch that I could use when tailgate was opened.

Several of us already sent notes to GM Customer Care about this and were told they appreciate the feedback for future changes. I would encourage any comments be sent to them.

There are two versions of the cargo lamp. The early build version looks like a cargo truck (the one shown above) with no light on the switch; later on they changed the switch to look more like a pickup truck and it is lighted.

The cargo lights will time out and will not work when not in park. Below is the newer switch. By the way, there are two versions of the Owners Manual..
