Did dealer forget to program my key fob?

Neither key fob work. Were in sealed plastic bag in console when I received. Midnight called Onstar and they were so helpful in telling me the people I need were closed. I would like to lock my new truck tonight If anybody knows what I need to do. If I lock with keys the horn starts going berserk. Broke my key fob trying to get it open to see if battery was installed. Cheapest junk plastic I have ever seen in my life.

Have to say I am thrilled with the vehicle though.

Thanks in advance.

you could have locked the doors from the inside. and then just shut the doors...then opened in the morning with the key.

you didnt have to dissect your key fob....those things are expensive.

I would think the fobs are programmed at the factory.

The fobs should have been programmed at the factory. As stated above just press the lock button and shut the doors next time. Then open it with the key and go get it fixed at your dealer.

Thanks for all the responses. I know I CAN lock it, but any time I do, the thing starts whailing when I go to unlock it. Of course that stops as soon as key is in ignition. Also, all I did was pull the cover as I would if needing to replace battery. They are terrible design, just like every tv remote.

Local GMC dealer tested everything and reduced it to my dealer mixing another truck's set. Had to schedule a Sat morning appointment because their single employee with the programming knowledge was busy mopping the service bays when I stopped in.

That's true, but what probably happened is that they lost remotes in another truck they sold to someone and took the remotes from the OP's truck, then ordered some new ones and forgot to program them.

Anyway programming the fobs is no big deal, but you need instructions and I am not sure if the owner's manual has them. Usually only service manuals have them. I know the vheicle is under warranty, but doing this yourself saves you a trip to the dealer if you can find the instructions.
