2006-2007 GMT800 downgrades.

Why did GM downgrade most of their GMT 800 trucks in 2006? Meaning that an LS package truck is slightly better than a WT package and an LT package is actually an LS package from 99-2005. Why did Chevrolet do that? The LS package since 99-2005 had almost ALL the bells and whistles you'd expect except for heated seats and all power seat adjustment. In 2006, the LS package has manual seats, manual windows, and a Chrome bumper for the most part and an LT package is a step up from the LS package with a little extra..Weird..

Basically to prepare for the LTZ being top.

Perhaps. but we've never seen an LTZ package in 2006 lol. Plus it was confusing, they used 1LS 2LS 1LT 2LT 3LT for their package codes. They should have just left it alone

There was an LTZ in 2006. The Great White Buffalo. There was a Suburban LTZ. 6.0 AWD, Z71 body styling. denali interior and powertrain. But My guess is in 06 they did that so when you bought an LT in 07 you bought mid range

This is when GM began to modernize with trim levels. My LS is identical to my dads LT, except that he has a color matched front bumper which is very fragile amd cant even be stepped on. And his license plate lights are black plastic compared to the chrome on mine.

He also has a tougher tranny and electric fans. I have a good fix for that front bumper lol.

My 2006 LT2 has almost every option but leather, passenger power and onstar. 6 cd, Bose, rearview and driver dim, rear def, mirror heat, auto AC, etc. I think for the full power seats you have to get an LT3

Why would you step on a front bumper of a 1500? They're low enough for me to reach pretty much everything by leaning in from the front or sides.

Well yes and no, I've got a leveling kit which brought the front up about 2". Then if I'm trying to get to the back part of the engine, I can reach it, but if I need to torque on something I have to step up on the bumper from time to time.

Reaching deep into the engine bay requires that you step on something and the bumper is a perfect location.

And my dads truck is a 4x4 so the front end is higher, you definitely need something to stand on.

And the tranny was upgraded during the gmt800 lifespan?

I managed to do all eight plugs standing from the side. Only on HD trucks do I run out of reach. And all the bumpers are trash these days, I'd never stand on one.

I couldn't reach mine from the ground, at least not without rubbing all over the paint. So I just climb onto the bumper for that kind of stuff.

And he doesnt have more hp because he has a 4.8 with what I believe to be a 3.08. Truck has no balls at all but is perfect for cruising and mpg's, up to 25 calculated by hand!

But if I ever have to replace my 2000 I would either do it with a new K2, a 2002 or a 2006. It would be white, have the 5.3/3.73, and rwd.
