All depends. Money saved is huge but having a warranty if offered is a plus. A lot have had success doing a diy though.

Honestly, this shop seemed as confident if not a bit less confident as I do about doing the work all myself. I am talking to my neighbor right now who has apparently helped a couple of his friends do custom headlight work. mostly just halos but in this install. The halos would actually be on the more difficult end (relatively speaking) since Phil created those adapter plates. I am really considering doing it myself to save the money. If this shop did the work and something happened they didn't seem to have much of a warranty. The guy said if it breaks they will look at it and if it is a problem like moisture, they'll fix it, outside of that, i.e. something fails, then its not really their fault nor will they change out the part without another $100. For that I'd almost rather do it myself

Ordered the FXR adapter plates from fastheadlights just now. Now just to wait for the LMZ collars to come in and these plates and then to find a free weekend [emoji106]

Good call on the diy. Save a ton. Enough to cover a new set if needed.... kidding, kidding... Plenty of info out there. We're all pulling for you and the pics.

Will make sure to get plenty of pics. Just hoping that the LMZs will still fit and be more effective in the FXRs. If not, then I'll have them up for sale soon cause I want the most light I can from these FXRs. Even if that means getting rid of my totally awesome LED headlights [emoji17]

You will have to open up your headlights correct? What your plan?

Yes I will. I plan to put the headlights in the oven for 10 minutes at 275. I have seen a few Silverado guys recommend 275 for 15-20 but they also have to remove the chrome trim. I have seen one sierra guy say the say temp and time but another 220 for 15-20 (will just have to repeat a few times) so I figure I'll go with a happy medium of 275 for 10 mins and see where that ends me up

I'll be waiting to hear how it goes, as I would love to open them up to blackout the chrome trim!

Great build Mike, just finished going through the entire thread (started a few days ago). Got some good ideas from you, driver assist handle, some lighting upgrades, and I love what you did with the interior trim!! Might try something similar in the next few weeks.

Good luck with your headlights! I want to color match and retrofit mine also but will probably have them done professionally. I have a habit of biting off way more than I can chew on DIY projects lol. You're much handier than me though and sounds like it's something you're up to!!

Thanks man! I actually just subscribed to your build thread a few days ago.

I'm not gonna lie, I feel like I may be biting off more than I can chew on doing the headlights myself, but hey, just gotta think positive and positive things will (hopefully) happen haha

PS. for anyone who hasn't seen the pics I posted in the LMZ thread comparing the OEM projector output with the LMZ to the FXR's output with the LMZs. Go check them out! I always knew that the OEMs sucked, but now, I know just how much they suck!

They told I'm not driving in a race car, but no one ever told me I couldn't drive it like one [emoji57]

On my way home after sitting in about 30 minutes worth of bumper to bumper traffic getting out of the city, I found myself on some open highway, so I made up for the lost time [emoji6]

Also, ordered a few things over the past 2 weeks to help me out with headlight work and just some random things. It was like Christmas morning when I got home!

OCI rubber butyl glue, male quick disconnects and T-taps, new charging cord for old iPod touch (going to leave it in driver side map storage bin and it will become the control unit for my halos when I install. Hoping to get wire for radar detector hidden tomorrow and plug in iPod and test to see how well that works. Also going to wire in control boxes in cab (hopefully)), also got tinting film for amber turn signals on tow mirrors (plan to get amber in headlights and tail lights smoked professionally with paint), FXR adapter plates, and that should be it!

Love the speedo pic. Lets get one of it at 140!

You don't have your speed limiter? Did you tune and I miss it?

Speed limiter set at 98

Speed limiter set at 98, but I would trust these trucks to do 140. Did 125 in my other truck when it was leveled sittn on 33's and she handled pretty good. Except the RPM's were through the roof

    • I went through again with a test light and everything checked out.    I suppose it could be the MAF itself but I've tried 3 different sensors, 2 of which were in running vehicles previously (the one in this truck, and the one in the donor truck), as well as a new one I picked up from NAPA. I would just be surprised if all 3 were bad.   EDIT/UPDATE: I swapped in the MAP sensor that was originally with the 2010 PCM, that made the code for map sensor voltage high Go away, and the map sensor seems to read normal with key on engine off (14psi or so), but it still doesn't run and does the same thing as before.
    • In addition to a cell or wifi connection, the infotainment needs to be enabled to download software updates. That's a toggle within the system settings.   But...if the truck was prevented from receiving updates in a past life, missing a bunch of updates may mean it won't go back and download all of those because they're not available or the system is too far out of date.   If a formal recall depends on a software update, the recall for that truck remains in an open status until it's applied. The dealer would need to apply the software update in that instance.   Most updates downloaded and applied via the infotainment aren't recalls/safety recalls, they're enhancements and usability fixes which aren't critical.
    • Recently I've been getting a message, "New Brake Pads Detected. Reset Brake Pad Life?", But I haven't had the pads replaced and the truck only has 28,000 miles. The Brake Pad Life shows Front 64% and Rear 79%. I select NO to resetting the brake pad life and the message goes away but comes back at the nest restart.   I stopped by the dealer and was told that it sounds like a software glitch that would require reprogramming. Even though I have the extended warranty, they tell me that reprogramming is not covered unless a module was actually bad and needed to be replaced. Simply reprogramming is not covered. So, they want $200.00 just to diagnose the problem. If it turns out no bad module, another charge on top of that to do the reprogramming. If the cause was an actual bad module, everything would be covered under the warranty.   Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Should this issue be covered under the warranty?   Thanks
    • NHT is diesel only, correct.     The GVWRs for NHT on 3/4 ton bring them to the same numbers as many of the 2WD 1 tons.  A crew 4x4 standard 3/4 with NHT is 11,750lbs, a 1 ton same cab/box/4x4 is 12,100lbs.     Hubs and hub bearings are the same for 11.5" and 12" axles.  Housing, diff carrier and ring/pinion are larger for the 12".   All gas use the 11.5" axle, 3/4, 1 ton and 1 ton DRW.
