Dish or Direct?

Recommended Posts

Well guys, I finally got my own apartment. Everything is setup, except for what should I go with? Cable or should I get Dish Network or Direct TV?

If I get cable, it'd be Time Warner for this area that I live in. I got their Internet Package right now. But I just don't wanna go with their TV.

So, I'm debating on Dish or Direct. I usually watch sports, hunting and things like that. Also, I'm gonna my channels in HD & would like to have a DVR box, too.

So, what do you guys prefer or have? Pros & Cons? Trying not to spend over $100 on my tv package at max.

Thanks!

My parents had Direct TV and when I moved out I couldn't wait to get something else, went with DISH. I watch the same sort of programming you do and have tons of HD channels that are of great quality. I have the top 200 plan with a DVR and all the HD channels I could get and pay $89 per month right now. It was in the $50 buck range for about 2 years when I got it with all the incentives and rebates, but it has stayed at what I pay now for a good while. I have the one receiver that feeds two TV's, both are HD.

One major con is that if there is storms or heavy rain forget about watching TV, it goes out like clock work when a storm is moving in. Make sure you check both DISH and Direct TV before you pick a package, they are pretty sneaky about moving the good channels to the top tier package to make you pay more.

Thanks man! I mean I could go with Netflix, I already have. But I want live tv, bc I love sports. Such as NBA Playoffs currently, Nascar, MLB and once NFL & College Football returns, I'm glued to my tv!

That's not bad at all, That's pretty good man deal man. My usual channels are the ESPN channels, USA, Fox, Sci-Fi, AMC, & stuff like that.

Never had a problem with direct tv. Check on line and work them against each other.

My AT&T Internet with the direct tv is supposed to be $90/month. My roommate bought some stupid package somehow so now it's $140. I could live without the satellite tv. Most of its use is sports.

I just have one tv in my apartment. So I wonder if they'll give me a discount on that.

Just call both places and get them to fight each other for your business. I screwed up and ordered on the internet when I did it, my buddy called and got the same exact package for $10 less per month. He pays the same as me now that his incentives ran out.

I thought about going that route. I'll do one of the two, I wish they glow in the dark remotes like TWC has. ONLY good thing about them.

You can always buy a glow in the dark universal remote. Seen em' with big glowing buttons somewhere.

I prefer DirecTV (been with them since 1993 or 4) but am seriously considering cutting the cord. Its the sports thing is what is holding me back.

If you are losing signal at every storm that rolls in, you might want to check signal strength and receiver models. Some are more prone than others. My parents had one of their 2 sat setups drop out every time a storm rolled through and when I investigated I found an improperly terminated end on one of coax whips. Redid that and works great. Rarely does mine or theirs cut out for storms, has to be pretty dense.

I have had dish for about 5 yrs. only thing that pisses me off is I want to upgrade my old receiver but they want to charge a service fee and upgrade fee f that it's like $400

Holy crap... that is total BS. Is it possible to drop them and then sign back up in your wife's name and get the upgrade and current incentives? Or just call them and tell them you are dropping DISH because of that reason and switching to Direct TV, I bet they will change their tone real quick.

I had both, back in 2009-10ish I switched to DirecTV and never looked back. I love the whole home DVR package and I was able to get the 5 tuner DVR by trying to cancel them by saying it was too expensive and wanted to record more than 2 shows at once and they dropped 30.00 per month off my bill for 1 year and got me the Genie DVR for 99.00 instead of 399.99. My bill is 150.00 per month as I have 5 receivers and the premium package that has all the movie channels.
