Windshield crack

I had a car a while ago that the windshield was replaced because of a crack that started from a chip. Three days later, the new windshield snapped and it was then cracked. Glass was improperly molded or had a flaw - it happens.

I -NEVER- use SafeLite for windshield work. Not only are they more expensive, you will get a "SafeLite" windshield... it's their own off-brand stuff that is extremely inferior in quality. The couple of times that I have used them, the windshields that they installed left me experiencing headaches after driving medium to long distances because the glass was actually distorted.

I've used Glass America multiple times with excellend results, and was once able to request a new manufacturer windshield through Glass America because the car was so new at the time.

Has anyone had their windshield just crack. Just got into my truck and noticed a big crack and no sign of a rock hitting it.

Warranty is covering mine dealer ordered it and will be in next week

I was driving on the freeway when I heard what sounded like a rock hitting my windshield even though there was no car in front of me. Should I try to go to the dealership and see if it's covered under warranty or just file a claim with my insurance? Just sucks that I only had my truck for 2 months and I have a large crack in the same spot as OP.

My guess is that they're going to tell you that something hit the windshield. That little circle and smudge on the glass says it was an object strike.

I also have been hearing the same sound and know it was not an object... Mine seems to originate in the middle very top because I always look behind the rear view mirror when I hear it... I have a 2014 and has 5400k miles...

I thought it was the plastic in the dash snapping into place or something but it does do it quite a bit.

I have 400 miles on my crew cab and the windshield cracked. I had the sound like everyone else and it cracked in the same place.

I have not developed a crack yet. My window does pop though. It sounds like a small rock hitting it. Has done it quite a few times now. Anyone else have this problem?

Mine does it a lot too. I wonder it is a very tight fit and it makes the cracking noise because of temp changes from a/c etc. wonder if its s tight that any little rock hitting it may cause it the crack because its tight and just wanting to crack. sounds that way anyway.

Maybe a bad run of windshields. Anyone compare manufacturing dates? mine was 02/15.

same here. third crack in 7 months of owning my sierra. haven't swapped it out yet since OEM for my front lane sensor is insane. so I'm driving with a huge crack in my direct field of vision.

Dealer is replacing the windshield. I have two cracks in it. One on the lower passenger side just like everyone else and one on the top side of the driver side.

Did it looked like something hit your windshield? I had the same popping noise that some users on here are experiencing. When my windshield cracked there was no car or truck in front of me, only to the side. I notice that a user said that the circle and smudges were from an object hitting the windshield. The smudges were from my finger trying to feel the circle mark.
