Windshield crack

I washed my truck last weekend and noticed a very tiny rock chip in the upper passenger corner of the windshield. No big deal (or so I thought). Yesterday morning I noticed a nice 15" long crack in the windshield. Was going to get the dealer to warranty it, but the rock chip is in the crack line. They will say the rock chip caused it (and it may have). Getting the windshield replaced today via insurance and $100 deductible.

Will they warranty it even if there's an unrelated chip? Got a good one starting at the top frame - there's a slight pit, but not sure I'd call it a rock chip.... This is my first new vehicle with a warranty.... would I talk to my sales guy, or just the dealership service dept?

I got a crack that started today myself. I haven't had anything hit the windshield that would cause damage like that. Just bugs. It started in the middle of the driver's side a pillar and is slowly growing across my line of sight.

I'm gonna be pissed if it isn't covered by the warranty...

Has anyone had their windshield just crack. Just got into my truck and noticed a big crack and no sign of a rock hitting it.

Mine started in the same location. I have since got a second one that started right above the drivers head.

Has anyone priced out a new one without going through insurance?

I have replaced two on my 09. I went GM glass, as the first non GM glass tried was so wavy I would get sea sick. Both GM wind screens were about $350-375 each plus about $50-75 each to install. Ask your dealership parts department to give you a price break as you bought the truck there. Also ask who they use to install the screen.

Some owners, including me, have reported hearing what sounds like a rock hitting the w/s even when not following any vehicles.....just wondering if this could be related.

Had to have mine replaced just a month or so ago. was cheaper out of pocket than my deductible. $478. That is for the basic windshield, not with the lane departure system (requires different windshield). Also includes the $30ish fee for them coming to me vice going into a store, and disposal fee. I asked about OEM and was quoted over double the cost. This was all through safelite btw. Honestly, minus the gm logo, I can't tell the difference, except the lack of 40" crack of course.

Here was the breakdown:

The cost of the work will be:

Total $478.35*

This total price includes $404.95 for parts & labor, $9.95 for disposal fees, $34.99 for mobile service and $28.46 for tax.

That's a lot better deal. Who was that through? Was that your deductible or cash?

Maybe the prices dropped, which is a good thing.

What company was that? Seems high for a non-oem. My 09 with rain sensing (higher cost) is about $250-300 non-OEM and $450 OEM installed. My dealer I bought the truck from works with me on the oem price. And the 900s glass is larger than the '14s. Not sure about thickness.

It was Safelite. Dealer quote was more. And they just sent you out to a local glass company anyway. I'm sure after a year or two, the price of these will drop too. I ran a new quote and it has come down around $20. New vehicle, higher priced initial parts.
