21 hour road trip.. Any tips??!..

Sounds like fun to me cant wait for a road trip this summer. Last year we did a trip from home here in Saskatoon Sask down to Las Vegas to Los Angelas up to Reno and home 6500 km 4000 miles. Awesome trip and you guys have some beautiful country down there cant wait to come back.

I just drove from PA to CO strait through and the truck did awesome. The only thing you might notice is your battery gauge will probably drop to 9ish cause when you're at speed or idling a lot, the alternator doesn't need to work as hard storing the power in the battery to save mpg. I was getting worried but once I searched it, my mind was put to ease.

Mpg... You'll prob see anywhere from 12-21ish depending on speed and elevation. That's what I saw at least with 2.5 level and 33.4x12.3 18x9 (100lbs roller combo)

Yeah same thing happened to me. Voltage dropped to around 9. I was 2 hours from home on a Sunday night. I was freaking out. I only had 200 miles on the truck. My 2010 silverado was always a constant 14v. I ended up calling onstar and had them run a diagnostic and they said everything was fine. Then when I got to the hotel I googled it and was relieved to read that it was normal. I also read it the manual that the voltage meter will fluctuate depending on what the truck needs.

I'd stay away from the energy drinks as mentioned earlier, i took one on a drive and it lit a fire under my ass!

 

Truck should do fine tho! Just make sure your phone is fully charged and you have an extra quart of oil and maybe a gallon or two of gas!

yup I was in the middle of Nebraska with nothing around so I googled it on the road to it was normal. Weird thing is. The rest of the day even after parking the truck for a couple hours and it still was sitting right above 9v. It wasn't until the next day till it went to the "normal to us" 14v. Now that' I've been paying attension, I do see it below 14v. It doesn't go as low as 9v, but it will fall somewhere between 12-14v some mornings.

Great info and advice.. We're gonna take tha tahoe but Have no clear bra yet. Don't wanna mess up that paint!!

I think gas mileage should be pretty close between the two. Hopefully. Lol

Does the Tahoe have 'adaptive cruise'? Might be a great time to test it out.

I'm a fan of driving at night on long trips too. But it's not for everyone lol.

Not. Near. Yellowstone.

 

I likes driving at night until that trip. From Yellowstone south exit to Jackson Hole. Never made it. Trying so hard to miss all the elk (I was in a Kia Forte rental, I would have lost that battle HARD)I ending up taking the wrong side of a fork, went east instead of south. Didnt see any civilization for close to 70 miles. Glad I had plenty of gas.

 

Also, North Dakota I4 or whatever. 75 mph and deer and phesants EVERYWHERE. I saw more deer in ND along the roads in one night than the rest of my life combined

Last time I took a night trip was this winter, KS to Durango, CO. 14 hours, hit La Veta pass and once I passed an invisible line it was blowing snow, 60mph plus and 20 below... 45 and under all the way over, hit the other side and it was clear as a bell. Crossing the desert with the sun rising in the rear view was well worth it.

 

Which is my other tip... Empty your own tank while it's convenient, never know when the next time you can go is!

Guys, anybody knows the laws of traveling with a firearm through diff states.. Seeing how I will have my family with me It would not be a bad idea to bring.. I do not have a chl.. In the process actually. But state of Texas allows you to have a firearm in your vehicle without a chl.

 

Any info would be great.. Thanks..

If you violate a law in a state and get

locked up, it is 100% your fault. Some states don't recognize any others permits, you might even print out a copy for every state you drive through just for a quick reference.

Select your state and it will tell you which states accept your ccw permit and which states you have to stow it

OP says he has no permit. Not sure if open carry is legal in Ohio but their laws are strict, I probably wouldn't even if it were.
