Wow the L86 is only 11.5:1 and the L83 is only 11:1. I believe the old LS2 was 10.9:1

I know that and the LT4

Has a lower static CR than my truck which to me is odd.

No, I said with the heavier drivetrain of the trucks 480 or so should be doable, given the cammed Vettes are already in the 520 range. Give the aftermarket some time for the parts to begin trickling down and you’ll see. And that’s rear wheel—few of us pull our engines to dyno them at the flywheel so estimated flywheel numbers are pretty meaningless.

 

 

 

Wow. So let me get this straight—you’re going back to your original prediction? That even with a blower, the 6.2 will be lucky to crack 400 at the wheels? You realize that cammed 5.3’s are already cracking 400 and running 12’s (with no boost at all)?

 

 

Again, there are cammed 5.3 trucks running in the 12's already, without even having all the bolt-ons yet. Just wait a year or so for more to become available. That's the much smaller, lower compression 5.3. You really just don't know what you're talking about regarding these engines.

so time for another update. talked to the tech at EB today and they are planning to finish up the testing next week. they say they plan to have it done by friday afternoon.

i am expecting to get all call monday afternoon with an official deadline of friday.

so ill hold off making plans to travel until then.

they say the towing has been going really well. the trucks tows 10,000 pounds extremely well for a gas powered truck.

i was told "its not a 750 ft lb tq diesel" but for a gas truck it is very impressive!

 

someone asked earlier about rev matching when downshifting, i addressed this and as i had suspected "it is unaffected."

 

we also spoke about some transmission quirkiness that seems to exist in the 5.3 and the 6.2 that is that some of you may have noticed on some shifts the engine tends to rev up a little between the shifts. I've noticed it before and the only way i can describe it is to say it sounds like the transmission can't make up it's mind wether or not to shift.

they say its even common on the stingray.

while they do not plan to "RE-engineer " anything from GM they did make some slight adjustments as this condition is actually due to the throttle plate opening slightly while shifting. not exactly sure why GM designed it this way but the process of tuning they tell me has reduced it some and to that effect it runs better than stock in this regard.

i am told the adjustments have to do with the spark tables, AIT's and EGT's they are testing under load and analyzing the data on the data logger to meet emissions and reliability concerns.

although this is a frustratingly long process i do find a certain amount of appreciation for the fact this is not by any means a throw it together project.

i recently saw another post of someone in Canada getting a 1900 TVS on a denali 6.2 i will be curious to see their numbers and i can only assume that shop didn't spend anywhere near the same amount of R&D EB is putting into their kit.

an assumption on my part certainly, but i think few tuners to to this amount of time and effort. they have now put nearly 350 miles on my truck between the dyno and the street. fair to say that is a significant amount of dedication.

i guess there are a LOT of data points that either get left untouched or disregarded. EB tuners tell me this is a 3 week process and as much as i had a hard time believing it, they are definitely adding miles to it every day since the SC was actually installed.

most shops i am told can do a tune in about 3 hours, and i am sure many do but i guess to get EB's name on it and offer a warranty on a truck that will be potentially used for heavy towing, they need to make sure they get ti right.

so for any of you who decide to get this kit, i hope you appreciate all the effort that went into their tune, the time it took and the sacrifice I've made to be without my truck for what will be a total of 5 weeks.

 

i think knowing what they are doing and how much R&D goes into their product builds value in my mind at least.

if your like me, and don't want to deal with any out of warranty issues i can't help but think the finished EB kit couldn't be any more safe for your truck as a finished product.

equally impressive is based on the numbers i don't think they dialed back the boost or anything to get the safety they were shooting for.

 

on another note, some things came up this week i am trying to juggle around.. i have a colleague in Las vegas that i am trying to make plans to visit on my way back home with the truck for a day. since they are going to need it until friday i am trying to make arrangements to be in Vegas for a day on thursday, then fly to LA to take the truck home on friday.

in other news, i was lying in bed yesterday afternoon watching TV while a thunderstorm was brewing outside. i began to wonder to myself what might happen if lightning struck my house while the TV was on.

well 30 minutes later thats exactly what happened and the lightning bolt actually struck my bedroom! all the sudden BAM! all i saw was sparks flying from under my Direct TV receiver and everything went black!

 

if you can picture this my bedroom has a vaulted ceiling, and an accented roof line coming down the front wall towards the wall where my flat panel TV is attached to the adjoining wall. above that wall is a shelf if you like that on the back side is the closet. so i have a TV and just above the TV the top of the wall, closet behind and the AV receiver, Direct TV box, a 4 channel camera DVR and 2 stereo speakers all along the top of this wall.

 

well the lightning found a path from the peak of the ceiling, through the bull nosing which is made of metal (fancy name for rounded corner shaped drywall edge)

the bolt of lightning jumped from 1,2,3 separate pieces of this bull nosing, then along the wall where all the components sit and arched into the DVR, the receiver and took out the tv! F&*)!!

all the smoke alarms went off and i went down stairs to asses the damage. in the garage the garage door opener is humming because the logic board got zapped and the GD opener was trying to close the door despite it was already closed and the motor started smoking! so i unplugged it.

 

total damage still undetermined but in total i lost 2 stereo receivers, (1 down stairs) a 42" flat panel TV, a DVR 4 camera recorder, a direct TV receiver, my Paradigm PS 1000 750 watt powered subwoofer, a garage door opener, and my cable modem!

damage to the house (ill post pics in a minute from my iPhone) i went out this morning to see whats up on top of the roof and it blew a hole through 3/8" OSB and the shingles on top were all lifted up and torn. with that and the inside needing repair i am estimating about $10,000 to my house and another 3 grand in property.

fortunately i am in the insurance business and know exactly how to deal with these issues.

adjuster supposed to come next week, so i guess i should be glad the truck pickup got delayed a week otherwise my wife might be left with this mess to deal with while i was gone.

tomorrow is our anniversary!

anyway thats all i have to report. hope you were entertained with my personal struggles, tune in next week, hopefully ill have some videos for you guys!

Everything is at the shop to see if anything can be repaired which is unlikely but for insurance reasons need to know if it's a total loss or not

Yep, that sucks. My truck is scheduled to get a tvs 1900 tomorrow morning. Hopefully they have all the parts. I also decided to add some American racing long tube headers. They won't be in for another week. It will be nice to see the difference they make. Supposed to make the supercharger breathe a lot nicer.

So I finally got a deadline, they said I can pick it up on the 8th, I'll be there at 7:30 am ready to drive it back

Dyno charts for the 5.3 and 6.2 are on edelbrock's site

now that I have had a few minutes to compare it's interesting, the edelbrock 5.3 made 445hp and 421 tq where as the lingenfelter made 398 HP & 425 ft lbs of torque with 7 psi boost.

I don't know the boost of the Edelbrock but assuming it's the same as my 6.2 at 6.5 psi

in fact they advertise it to be a 475 hp package. edelbrock made nearly that at the wheels of the 5.3

 

also I just came across something kinda cool! here are the installation instructions for the 5.3 and 6.2! so now I know what was actually done to my truck. if you look carefully at the pictures anything with red paint was the 5.3L Silverado that edelbrock owns in their shop. anything with black paint is MY truck. you can even see the top of my Colorado plates on one of the pictures!

looks like they have to make only minimal modifications to the truck to install and it looks pretty straight forward.

Magnussen which I believe supplied the tvs 1900 to Lingenfelter got 414 for hp for the 2014 5.3 l.

    • Monthly payment is only part of the equation. With today's prices and interest rates, I'd look at the total monthly cost: payment, insurance, registration, fuel, maintenance, and expected repairs. A vehicle that fits comfortably into your budget is usually the better choice than stretching for a higher trim. I've also kept my vehicles longer over the past few years. New cars have gotten expensive enough that driving one for 10+ years, while staying on top of maintenance, often ends up being the most cost-effective approach.
    • 10 Ford and Chevy engines proven to reach 300,000 miles   You may note a common 3K OCI on this list of gas motors. I skipped over the diesels. Dh'O. 
    • Thanks newdude!  By the time manual selection is needed, I'm probably too much of a control-freak to depend on the transmission sensing braking to activate automatic downshifting.  I would be anticipating the situation and already be manually downshifting.   This truck replaced a 2004.5 LLY diesel with the Allison 5-speed.  Putting it in T/H made noticeable differences (when the torque converter locked, upshift points, downshift behavior).  On this 2024 gasser with the 10L1000 I haven't been able to detect much, if any, difference.  Ok, I can never tell now when the torque converter locks up.  But I also don't notice differences in shifting.  For downhills, I've probably already manually downshifted by then anyway.  Since it's also more awkward (than the 2004.5) to engage/disengage I don't even bother.  Or maybe it doesn't really matter with just a 3k lb. camper in the bed?   Thanks also for the list of reasons the charging system might select various voltages.  However, what I am seeing doesn't fall into any of those categories.  It very definitely, and very consistently, rises after coasting/braking.  Maybe not immediately, but not very long after coasting/braking.  Very consistently drops voltage when no longer coasting/braking.  It might also be interacting with the camper battery charging (I might disconnect the camper and see if it changes the charging behavior).  I also need to recheck turning on headlights for when I want to force it to charge the camper.   Another JR, in June I converted the camper to LiFePO4.  Since it's not a good idea to try to charge lithiums directly using truck, I installed a Victron Orion XS DC-DC charger (which BTW is AMAZING!!).  Being cheap, I only had to buy that one item (besides the battery, of course) to do the conversion.  The camper OEM 120v battery charger (only 19 years old and works perfectly) and the truck feed the input to the DC-DC charger (not at the same time).  But I didn't want the camper charger feeding back to the truck so I kept the old separator.  I considered replacing the separator with a 30amp diode but that means more work and might add another 1/2 volt drop.  One thing that surprised me was the voltage drop over the long 10awg wire run, so I can only charge smoothly at 8 amps (because the DC-DC charger is completely configurable).  Another reason I don't want an added voltage drop with the diode.  I might also be a little lazy but all this work is being done under the sink with a small cabinet opening.    
    • apparently CA smog is (or at least was)  checking that the vehicle is using the oem and/or a ca smog approved tune, so I expect you'll fail inspection doing it.
    • yes, leaking exhaust will mess up o2 sensor readings, which in turn messes up fuel trims.
