Active Noise Cancellation

First week with my new Denali 6.2L. Today after an interstate drive at varying speeds I came to a stop and heard what I can only describe as "white noise" coming from the rear seat area... the sound reminded me of the "white noise" that Bose headsets make on extended flights. I couldn't duplicate the sound on the ride home and will check on the next drive and record it if it happens again.

I upgraded the exhaust to the GM Borla system and I will say that it is LOUD! Good loud but still noticeably different than the test drive in a stock exhaust. I'm pleased and impressed.

My question... since the noise cancellation system is "active" could it be learning the truck sounds and over compensating resulting in the audible feedback? Have any other owners with active noise cancellation experienced anything similar?

Haven't experienced this, but there is no "learning curve" here. Very possible it was something unrelated.

No, I saw the thread talking about "USB noise"... I had a phone connected BT but wasn't playing music from the phone. Was really strange, like I said sounded just like Bose headsets when you use them just for noise canceling... sometimes they over compensate and you get what I call "white noise"... it was there on restart and I didn't notice it on the ride home. I'll check again tomorrow, if it happens I'll try to disconnect phones and such to make sure it's not a peripheral thing.

If you had the "cooled seats" option on, the exhaust from the seat cooling fans discharges through the back of the front seats and sounds like white noise.

I do have cool seats! :) You know it may have been that... not sure if I had it turned on or not. Will try it tomorrow, thanks!

Ding, Ding, Ding! Luster wins! Thanks, now I know I am not going crazy... it was the cool seats all along.

Yeah, the first time I heard that sound coming from the back seat I was a little puzzled myself.... :D

Has anyone figured out how to disable or remove the active noise cancellation? I had a 2010 6.2 and it sounded great for a factory exhaust. Just bought a 2015 6.2 Silverado and it sounds like its wheezing. Before deciding on an aftermarket exhaust it would be nice to know what the stock exhaust really sounds like. I'm surprised nobody has posted anything on this yet.

I have a '15 with the 6.2 and it definitely doesn't sound like it's wheezing. It's a little quiet at idle, but has a nice throaty growl when I get on it. Maybe not as throaty as an aftermarket system, but nice for a factory set-up. Also, it doesn't drone on the highway.

I can tell you what the stock exhaust sounds like - nothing!!

Its a pretty straight through system though and plenty large - I took mine off and it may 3.5"

I swapped out for a Gibson dual system and couldn't be happier though, now my truck sounds like a truck, and it also lets the vette 6.2 sing like it should. Also, this system does not "drone" (at least to me...drone would be what a magnaflow sounded like on my '07) and is MUCH cheaper than a borla, corsa, slp system.

You do have quite a bit of intake noise w/ the 6.2 over the 5.3 I noticed though.

Out of all the 1/2 tons out there, GM absolutely has the lamest exhaust tone...like no question at all about it, I noticed my neighbors 2013 Yukon Denali almost sounds like a "tame" aftermarket exhaust but is all factory whereas the new trucks/SUV's sound like a wind tunnel though a tin can

I disabled my active noise cancelation. Once I installed my subs the ACN was feeding through the subs and annoying as hell. The ACN is controlled through the amp via a duplicated crank position sensor signal. All you need to do is cut the wire and it will be disabled.

Do you have a stock exhaust? What does it sound like now that the ANC is disabled?

While I'm at it....

Has anybody cut out the resonator from the stock exhaust and replaced it with a piece of straight pipe? Wondering if it makes the stock exhaust sound better without any interior drone thanks to the ANC.
