Alright so I'm looking for what cam to get on my truck. I've got a 2008 silverado with 5.3L engine and 3.73 gear ratio. I'm looking for one that's not too aggressive so I can save mileage yet still have a noticeable power increase and I also don't wanna do much else other than the can itself. I just don't know where to start.. Any ideas?

Looking to save fuel but at the same time camming a truck? Pretty contradictory stuff right there.

You can get an mild cam and still havr o.k. mileage, but only if you can resist the urge to press the pedal down all the time lol.

I tend to disagree with the leave it alone theory. A cam can change an engines efficiency. More efficient could mean more MPG. Will you recover cost of a cam? Depends how you drive. If you go from an average of 16mpg to 18mpg, and drive 12000 miles a year, you could pay back the $500 for a cam swap in a year and a half. There was a great article in the Engine Swaps magazine from Car Craft this year. It compared all the factory LS cams and three cams by Crane. I am really interested in Crane's part number 1449541 its duration is 200/208 with .502 lift and 115 lobe separation. I may even step up to part number 1449051, its a little hotter and I am still on the fence. I think the vette cams are more tuned for higher RPM and made for a light car, not a heavy truck. I would call or send Crane an email and talk to them.
